As Spring Break rolls around, not all college students can afford an extravagant vacation to sunbathe on the beach or have a European adventure. We are all looking to relax in the weeks after midterms and long hours of studying. Here are some things to do while staying within your budget.
Go to the movies
Being released on March 22nd, Admission is a comedy starring Tina Fey and Paul Rudd. It centers around a college admissions officer who comes across an alternative young man who could be the son she gave up for adoption years prior. Grab some popcorn and get ready to laugh.
Stay in and watch a movie
Throw on some pajamas and enjoy a flick from the comfort of your own couch. Check out your local Redbox to see what movies are available for rent. The Bachelorette, being released to Redbox March 26th, is a comedy starring Kirsten Dunst, Rebel Wilson, and James Marsden. Four friends celebrate the impending marriage of Rebel Wilson’s character, coming together to make her last night of freedom memorable. You can almost always find something while searching the titles.
Chicago-area events
·        Chicago’s own Second City is introducing its new show, the “101st Revue”. Buy a ticket, grab a seat, and get ready for a unique comedy experience.
·        Obsessed with TLC’s show Long Island Medium? You’re in luck because Psychic Medium Theresa Caputo is coming to the Chicago Theater March 22nd at 8 p.m. for a live show! Tickets start at $40.
·        If you’re more interested in an interactive experience, The Murder Mystery Company has a new show called “Best Laid Plans,” an old-Hollywood murder mystery experience. Tickets start at $60
Treat yourself to a spa and beauty day
As a more affordable option than going to a spa, stay home and beautify. Paint your nails, get a new hair-do, buy a new outfit, and do a facial! Rejuvenate yourself after weeks of stress and notice the difference in how you feel.Â
Catch up with friends
Plan a night with your best friends or catch up with someone you’ve been meaning to get in touch with. Plan a themed night. Grab dinner at a restaurant you’ve been meaning to try or grab take-out so you can stay in and chat over a movie. Time spent with friends is a great way to relax and unwind.
Help out
If none of these options strike your fancy, consider volunteering over break. Volunteering your time to help someone or something can make your day as well as brighten the day of whomever you are helping. Consider using UIC’s volunteer finder website to find a place near you and do what you can to help out.Â
