JoJo Performs at Pinktober Event

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UIC chapter.

This past Thursday, November 1, I attended the Pinktober event at the Hard Rock Cafe in Chicago. Teen sensation of our days, JoJo, performed a mesmerizing acoustic set at the event.

I, like many other college kids, was obsessed with JoJo when she first hit the scene in middle school. I remember the summer after 6th grade I rushed to Best Buy to buy her first album. She had another hit a couple of years later with “Too Little Too Late,” but after that she seemed to have disappeared from the music scene.

After a couple of years of disputing with her label, JoJo is finally releasing new music after four years. She performed her hits, including first single “Leave (Get Out),” at the Pinktober event. The pop singer also performed her highly acclaimed cover of Drake’s “Marvin’s Room.” It was the first time I heard her version and let me tell you – It blew me away! JoJo has a way of evoking strength yet vulnerability when singing. Her vocal abilities shined through during her acoustic set.

Mind you, JoJo is about our age – she’s only 20. However, the singer carries herself very well and should have no trouble breaking out into the music scene with her edgier black locks and sexy attire. Her single “Disaster” is just beginning to impact the radio. Despite its similarity to her old material, the song reminds the music market why she was a star in the first place.

I also had the chance to meet JoJo and get her autograph on her new single and first album for me. She was very pleasant and thanked me for all of the support.

Will JoJo have a chance of rebranding and establishing herself in the music scene again? Possibly if the singer works hard and presents new and refreshing material in her album “Jumping Trains” due out early next year, I have no doubt she will make an impact once again. She has the amazing talent and looks to be a bonafide pop star and her performance at the Hard Rock Cafe showed a glimpse of the many good things to come from the songstress.
