DIY Christmas Tree Ornaments

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UK chapter.

Two ornaments I have found that are extremely easy to DIY for a beautiful tree are a pinecone and clothespin snowflake. Both ornaments require minimal materials and take a matter of minutes to create… in fact, allowing the ornaments to dry takes longer than making them! Here is a break down of each ornament with step-by-step crafting instructions:

Clothespin Snowflake

  • Materials:
    • Six to eight clothespins
    • Paint and paint brush
    • Glitter
    • Hot glue
    • Yarn or something similar for the ornament holder

Step one: Break apart the clothespins into three separate pieces. You will not need the metal piece.

Step two: Hot glue clothespins back to back.

Step three: Arrange your clothespins into a snowflake shape. I used six clothespins, but you can use as many as you’d like!

Step four: Paint each clothespin at a time. While the paint is still wet, pour glitter on top so the glitter will stick and dry. I used white paint and gold glitter but pick any color combination that would look best for your tree!

Step five: Glue yarn (or whatever material you chose) to the back of the snowflake to hang on the tree.

Pinecone Tree

  • Materials:
    • Pinecones
    • Paint and paint brush
    • Glitter
    • Hot glue
    • Yarn or something similar for the ornament holder

Step one: Work one side at a time. Cover one full side with paint on the edges then pour glitter on to hold to the paint to dry.

Step two: Finish painting and pouring glitter on the other sides.

Step three: Glue yarn (or whatever material you chose) to the back of the pinecone to hang on the tree.

Those are the two simple DIY decorations for your tree! Make sure to allow enough drying time before hanging them, and have fun!
