Surviving Wintery Walks to Class

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UK chapter.

It’s only two weeks into the spring semester and we’re already dreaming of the warm, sunny days of spring break. For right now though, we’re stuck with temperatures in the teens in a couple inches of snow. Entering my first winter here at UK, I’ve already decided 20-minute walks in the cold are not my kind of thing. I’ve turned to a few saving graces to help me power through this winter weather.

  • CeraVe Moisturizing Cream

If you’re anything like me, the winter completely dries out your face. It’s not only chapped lips; it’s basically like my whole face is chapped. This moisturizer has been a miracle worker for my skin. It creates a protective barrier of moisture without leaving your skin greasy. If you’re interested in checking out this skin-saver, check it out here!

  • Touch Screen Gloves

Everyone checks their phone on the way to class, but when it’s 30 degrees outside such a simple task may seem impossible for your ice blocks that were once hands. Touch-screen gloves give you a two for one benefit: warm hands and the ability to text or check your social media. These gloves are usually cheap (and sometimes super cute). You can find them almost anywhere where you can find winter wear!

  • Fleece-Lined Leggings

Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean I don’t want to wear leggings. Leggings are a staple in my wardrobe but don’t get me wrong, I know they are not the warmest option. That was until I found fleece-lined leggings. They give you the warmth of a cozy blanket on your legs while still giving you the versatile look of your everyday leggings. They are available in just as many colors as your regular leggings, so you can stock up for many different outfits. Check them out anywhere you find apparel!

  • Fleece-Lined Headband

Okay, I’m going to be honest here: I have a large head, one too large to fit in most beanies. Until I stumbled across fleece-lined headbands, my ears had frozen without any protection from the small-sized hats I could never wear. Thankfully, fleece-lined headbands came to the rescue when my grandma bought me one over Christmas break. My fleece-lined headband keeps my ears cozy (and it looks cute while doing it). You can usually find them relatively cheap, so be on the lookout for them anywhere you shop for winter clothes!

  • Fuzzy Socks

This one is a no brainer. Everyone loves warm feet, and ankle socks just can’t achieve the same effect as fuzzy socks. They come in tons of fun designs and patterns to express your personality all while keeping your toes all warm and cozy. You can also get these just about anywhere, but be sure to check out Amazon for tons more options (and use your free 6-month trial through Amazon prime student to get free shipping!)

  • Rubber Boots

This one is also pretty obvious, but no matter the precipitation rubber boots always keep your feet dry and protected. They can also be a really cute addition to your fleece-lined leggings and headband. Be sure to check for them anywhere you get your shoes!

I hope these winter essentials work for you as well as they have for me! Stay warm!
