Picking your dream school is tough and I am major proof of that considering I am currently a senior at UK – and this is the fourth college I have attended.

I will start this off by saying do not rush yourself into choosing a school. I picked my first college pretty quickly and I closed my mind off to considering any other schools. Thankfully, I met my best friend there, but it was also the beginning to a wild ride.

I began at Western Kentucky University. After some major health issues and some major home-sickness, I transferred back home to Georgetown, Kentucky.

The next two schools I transferred to without really considering all that would be involved. FAFSA can get pretty tricky with transferring and having to get a transcript from a college is not easy.

I decided I would try attending Sullivan University in Lexington, but I did not really fit into the few majors they offered. My third school was close to home at Georgetown College. I found my wonderful major of Secondary Education and History. I felt pretty good about my choice, but financially it was not meant to be.

I was having commitment issues with my education.

My last transfer I actually took my time and made the decision confidently. I decided that the University of Kentucky was going to be my best option to continue my schooling.

I felt at home pretty quickly and I already have my place on campus. It was a rough ride but I learned a lot. It took me four years, four colleges and three majors to realize that it was okay to change my mind and to take my time to figure out what was right for me.

Your future is not something to take lightly, but it is not a decision that you can easily make at 18 – heck, I can barely make it at 21. Take your time, keep your options open, and trust your gut.

Even if you are already at your first, or fourth, school listen to your needs and what is best for you. You do not have to stick through it if it is not where you belong or where you feel best at.

This is a major part of your life, you should feel good going through it.

My hair is usually frizzy and I’m usually craving coffee. I’m a senior at U.K. majoring in Secondary Education with a focus in Social Studies and minoring in Anthropology. I’m so happy to be writing for HerCampus, and so blessed to be on our executive board for my senior year!
