In India, there is a big culture of using homeopathic medicines or natural medicines to cure illnesses. Many of these techniques have been passed down through the generations. My parents have taught me many of these natural medicines that I use frequently in my daily life! I have listed some of the remedies that work the best for me below!

Pepper

This is another technique I use when I have a sore throat. Pepper helps with inflammation and has similar benefits as the other remedies I described in my previous article. I usually take one peppercorn into my mouth and let it sit in the corner of my mouth. Sometimes I do this during class if I have a cold that I need to suppress. I also use this overnight when I have a sore throat. Another pepper-related remedy that I use is drinking pepper rasam. Rasam is a soup-like Indian dish, and you can get the paste version of this at any Indian store. I put a spoon full of the paste, add water and heat it up to drink it.

Haldi/Turmeric Milk

This is also used to cure colds and sore throats. You can add pepper to this for added benefit. I usually drink this at night to suppress my cough and help me sleep. In general, drinking warm milk before sleeping also helps with falling asleep!

Directions:

  1. One cup of milk.
  2. Heat it in the microwave for around a minute.
  3. Add some pepper and powdered turmeric.
  4. Stir well.
  5. Drink!
Palm sugar cane

I use this when I have a sore throat or a cold to help soothe my throat. I usually just place it in the corner of my mouth similar to the pepper kernels. This can be added to multiple other things similar to turmeric!

These are remedies that frequently work for me but I would be sure to ask a doctor before you try any of them! All of the techniques that I have listed here and other benefits than just helping with the illness associated with them as well. Many of these remedies work best for smaller, more common illnesses. These remedies also provide other benefits to the body and help keep you healthy, especially because many of these items are things that you consume in your diet as well! These remedies have helped me a lot and I hope they help you too!
