When going to college, it’s set in your mind that you’re going to live the college life. You’ll join so many clubs and make so many new friends that you’ll have around for the rest of your life. You’ll study, make amazing grades, and graduate within four years. For the majority of us, that’s a long stretch, and for some of us, it’s the exact opposite! I’m sure many of you might be able to relate to some of these: you don’t have many friends, you didn’t joint as many clubs as you wanted to, and you never took the time to do things for yourself. It can be hard to balance life in college because now is one of the biggest transitions in your life. So I’m here to ask one thing of you-
Pick up a Hobby!
In highschool, my hobby was making videos through iMovie and posting them on YouTube or sharing them with my friends. It was my absolute favorite thing to do until my senior year. I kinda fell out of it and I don’t know why. When I got to college, along with other circumstances, I found that I lacked interest in anything. Recently, I’ve taken up kickboxing workouts and it’s one of the most gratifying things I’ve done in a while!
Having a hobby can help you make friends, allow you to learn a new skill, and fill up some of the downtime you have and are currently filling with Netflix binges.Â
So for those who can relate to having too much free time and feel like you don’t have a hobby or if you just want to pick up a new one, here’s a little list of things you can try!
- Reading
- Yoga
- Thrifting (Bonus Points if You Can Make a Look for Under $15)
- VolunteerÂ
- Blog/Vlog
- Play a Sport
- Paint
- Cook
- Try DIYing
- Workout
- Learn to Play a Game Like Chess or Spades
- Join a Club
You can go on Pinterest for more ideas if none of these sound fitting for you!Â
Having a hobby can also help you relieve stress! Being in college is stressful enough and my new kickboxing class helps me relieve A LOT of it. So whether it’s going to the movies once a week or learning how to skateboard, try a new hobby! I know that sometimes it’s hard to get yourself to do new things and a lot of us tend to procrastinate about it, but trust me when I say- it’s worth it.
