It’s that time of year again for an itchy scalp. It can be due to the weather, hair products, or even how you clean it during this time. However, when it goes from a few days to a third of the year with an itchy scalp then there’s a problem. Here’s some suggestions to hopefully help you with your scalp.
1. ACV/Baking Soda
This is the most common out of the alternatives. Both apple cider vinegar and baking Soda are home cleansing products that can help your hair without damaging it (as long as you use the correct amount). You need half water, half acv. This will not work if you use the baking soda before the acv. Many natural hair enthusiasts swear by this combo.
2. Lemon and Anti-Bacterial Oils
Lemon is very good cleanser because of its citrus. Mixing it in with regular shampoo, or even water, would have a good effect on your scalp. Essential oils such as lavender and tea tree oil are anti bacterial and could cleanse your hair without the possible damage that acv/baking soda could do. Peppermint is other oil that can clean your hair. One rule for hair oil/cleaning: if it can open up a clogged nose, it can open up a clogged scalp.
3. Clay Masks
If none of the above help or is effective enough, clay mask are the best alternative. You can mix any of the two options above with the clay masks to help getting to the scalp. Clay masks are cheap and completely nature just like the other options. One main downside: mixing the correct consistency. If it is to clunk, it gets stuck in your scalp causing more issues. If it’s too watery, it makes a mess and doesn’t stay in your scalp long enough to have an effect.
Itchy scalp is an embarrassing and annoying problem. If none of the above can help you, maybe it’s time to visit a doctor. It could be a underlining condition that isn’t showing major side effects. Regardless, you should be comfortable with your hair without any of the stress from scalp conditions.
