What is your major?
“My major during my time at UNC-Chapel Hill was Linguistics, but at UNC-Greensboro I am a Biology major. I plan on going to medical school after I finish the post-baccalaureate (post-bac) program here at UNCG, and after graduating from medical school I want to become a pediatrician.”
What made you want to do that?
“It has always been my dream to become a pediatrician because I enjoy working with children. Once I grew up and started taking science courses and job shadowing physicians in the field I realized I enjoyed learning about the difference processes that occur that allow humans to function day to day. I also learned that I love the fact that physicians can help empower their patients and teach them way to be most in control of their health.”
What is your ideal job for your degree, when you graduate?
“My ideal job would be to work in a small town as a pediatrician.”
How did you transfer to UNCG as a post-bac and know what classes to sign up for?
“During my time at UNC-Chapel Hill I took most of the required courses for pre-medical students. After discussing with an advisor here at UNC-Greensboro I decided to enroll in the course I had not taken earlier that was required by a some medical schools and to further my knowledge of biology by enrolling in other biology courses.”
How are you juggling schoolwork, med school interviews/applications, and taking the MCAT?
“I took the MCAT prior to enrolling in school at UNC-Greensboro and all of my primary and secondary applications for medical schools were completed by the time I started school here at UNC-Greensboro this past January. Luckily my interviews have usually fallen on either a Monday or a Friday and this has made it easier to reduce the amount of classes I have missed. My professors here at UNC-Greensboro have been understanding when I have informed them of my reason for having to miss their class for an interview.”
What made you want to come to UNCG for post-bac?
“I have heard other pre-medical students and professors talk about how wonderful the post-baccalaureate program is at UNC-Greensboro and it is one of the programs closest to my hometown.”
What are some recommendations you would make to people planning to find a post-baccalaureate program and go to med school?
“I would say look into a few programs and find which one feels like home to you. It is important to not just talk to the school, but also to discuss with current students what they think of the program.”
