Have you ever been walking across campus on your way back from a class or a friends dorm after dark and noticed that in some areas it seems a little too dark for comfort? I’ve definitely felt like that before, especially if I was walking alone. Well, it’s good to know that our campus is taking steps to fix things like that!
This past Thursday evening an annual Campus Safety Walk was hosted by the UNCG Police Department. Students, officers, and staff from other campus organizations such as Housing and Residence Life came together at the Police Department and broke up into eight different teams to scour campus and find any safety concerns such as lights out or walking hazards.
We then used the LiveSafe App (a free download on the GooglePlay or AppStore that allows you to do things such as send in anonymous tips to the Campus Police or call for a safety escort) to send in pictures of the concerns we found so that they could be routed to the proper departments to get fixed.
There wasn’t as big of a turnout of students as the Police Department would have liked but together we got campus covered in under an hour and a half and found many areas of problems that will soon be addressed.
The Student Government Association (SGA) also hosts a Campus Safety Walk each year. They will be doing their’s next semester so if you would like to be involved in helping keep our campus safe, I’m sure they would very much appreciate it!
Fox8 also did a quick story on UNCG and the folks who came out to help last Thursday. You can check out that article and video right here!
