Amber is the photo editor for The Seahawk, a marketing intern for Campus Dining, a study abroad ambassador, and a barista at The Barnes & Noble Cafe.Â
Â
HC: Why did you join these organizations on campus?Â
AM: I joined The Seahawk because I really like photography, and I think this is a good outlet to improve my skills. As a marketing intern, I get to design event calendars and social media posts for events we have at Wag. I also get to go to the events at Wag and give out prizes to students and promote campus dining. This has given me a lot of marketing and design experience, which is very close to what I want to do as a professional job. Being a study abroad ambassador has helped me reach out to students currently at UNCW studying abroad and lets me share my experience from this past spring, which is always a lot of fun. I’ve been a barista for two years now and making the drinks is always a lot of fun; we have a great staff, and it’s nice being able to interact with other students.

Â
HC: What is your favorite thing about each organization?
AM: Getting to interact with new people in all of these organizations is always fun; I really enjoy working with other people and these jobs allow me to collaborate with a lot of other students and staff members. My internship has given me a lot of design experience, and I am completely in love with it. It’s really neat being able to see the things you’ve designed and decorated around Wag and other dining locations. Being a study abroad ambassador has allowed me to help other students plan their study abroad experience and talk to international students and it’s so interesting to learn about other cultures while doing it. Even though I am just a barista, it’s fun knowing how to make all of these fancy drinks and work in the coffee shop atmosphere.
Â
HC: Any advice to those who want to become more involved?
AM: I would tell students to get involved as much as possible. Make time in your schedule to get involved and build up your resume and make it as strong as you can. You never know where it can lead you, and you will meet a lot of other students and build a lot strong friendships.
