How to channel “Bridgerton’s” 1800s-inspired costumes into your modern wardrobe for Spring 2021.
As we all probably know by now, “Bridgerton” has gained a HUGE following since its Christmas release on Netflix. Bridgerton content constantly shows up on my Instagram and Twitter feeds, and there is even talk of a “Bridgerton” musical on Tiktok! So, I thought I would take it upon myself to give you all a guide to incorporating the show’s gorgeous regency-inspired costumes into your 21st-century closet.
Color is key!
“Bridgerton’s” costume designer, Ellen Mirojnick, used lots of bold colors throughout the course of the show. For the Bridgerton family, pastels were used to emphasize their more mature, aristocratic background. The Bridgertons are used to knowing how to dress well, and the elegance of their clothes reflects their standing in society as London’s most eligible and sought-after family. On the other hand, the nouveau-riche Featherington ladies were decked out in lots of bright, flashy colors that force the other members of the Ton to pay attention to them.
In order to channel this strategic use of color into our everyday outfits, we can take cues from either family. For a more Bridgerton-inspired look, I would suggest pastel blues, greens and lilacs. Daphne often wears the traditional “Bridgerton blue” color, while Eloise is often in more understated greens and grays.

If your tastes lean more towards the Featheringtons (who doesn’t love Penelope?), look at bright yellows, oranges and pinks! While Penelope, Philippa and Prudence are always dressed in their mother’s preferred style, Marina often leans towards paler pinks.
Details!
Now that we have colors decided on, we can talk about details. Both the Bridgerton and Featherington ladies wear lots of floral patterns and lace accents. Luckily, these have always remained pretty popular, so they aren’t very hard to find!

Fits and Flares!
To really get that regency-inspired look, we want to look for specific cuts of clothing. Empire waists for dresses, flowy or puffed sleeves or an open neckline with a deep square cut.

Jewelry and Accessories!
To complete the look, accessories in “Bridgerton” range from simple necklaces to literal hair cages. For an everyday look, I’d suggest drawing inspiration from Daphne Bridgerton and Marina Thompson. Both have very simple, elegant styles of jewelry that would put the finishing touches on any outfit.
Now that you’re covered head to toe in pastels and flowers, you should be ready to catch the eye of the Duke– at least according to the members of the 1813 London social season.
