HC: What made you start the cheerleading team?
I originally cheered for the UNCW school team my freshmen year along with a few other teammates and we all really enjoyed our time, but missed the competition aspect of cheerleading. It led us to look into starting our own competitive club cheerleading team.
HC: what was the process like?
The process was challenging with a sport, such as cheerleading, there are so many safety concerns, rules and regulations, and it can be hard to educate people on the sport if they have never participated. We went to CAIC with our idea and they were very helpful. They walked us through the entire process and made sure we were ready with everything we needed when our club was officially passed as an organization on campus. We would not have been able to do it without the help from the CAIC office!
HC: Are you involved on anything else on campus?
I am a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, a member of Pi Sigma Epsilon and Study Abroad Ambassador!
HC: When will you be starting your competitions?
Right now we have a solid group of people who are interested and committed. We are practicing and working out at the gym and would like to recruit more people! We will be at the Involvement Carnival in the spring looking for more cheerleaders, and with any luck, be competing this spring!
HC: Any advice to someone starting a club on campus?
My advice would be to make sure it is something you really want to do, because it is a lot of work and can be stressful at times; however, if it is something you really want, give it your all and it’s best to have a group of friends or people who are there to help you!
HC: What’s your favorite thing about UNCW?
My favorite thing about UNCW is the people I have met in my time here, being so far away from home I have found a real sense of community and a great deal of friendship that I will always cherish!
