Local Artist Collective Dialect Is At It Again

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNCW chapter.

Do these guys look familiar? Our very own Sierra Shepard interviewed the masterminds of Collective Dialect earlier this year when the band was just a duo. Now, a trio with new member Andrew Leinbach, the guys released their newest work titled Dog Daze this past week. Daily Chiefers commends the artists saying they “skillfully blend(s) hip-hop and reggae” on their new project, and GoodMusicAllDay celebrates the “smooth rhymes and great hooks” delivered on the 10 track EP. Ty Graham not only emcee’s on the tracks but is equally responsible for producing their music; wonder if they’re still recording in The Shower Booth?

In their interview this past February, the then Senior UNCW student duo were celebrating the success of their second mix tape Drowning In Sound. When asked to describe their music, Graham (Some Guy Ty) labeled their genre as “diverse” while their bio describes it as “an electric mix of Atmosphere, Citizens Cope and The Dirty Heads.” The comparisons are accurate, but I must say, Collective Dialect has definitely established their own sound with this EP. Relatable and well-versed, the lyrics speak to a broad audience and every song and is enhanced by their collaboration of electric riffs and fluid beats. If you appreciate music that helps you escape from the chaos of your own mind, I highly recommend finding a quiet plot of sand on the beach and putting these songs on repeat.

On track 6 of Dog Daze, the song called “Bill Cosby,” the guys exclaim that they “get down like a Chili Pepper base line” and those who listen will agree. You can find Dog Daze on Soundcloud, Daily Chiefers, Bandcamp, and their personal website for free! (Be looking for them on iTunes in the near future!) If you like what you hear and want to show your support, Red Dogs in Wrightsville Beach will be hosting a release party September 10 (time TBA). The guys encourage you to come “get weird” with them and listen to their new EP Dog Daze live!
