Every year when final exams roll around, students find themselves in one place: the library. All of the tables fill up fast, so students end up sitting on the floor in between book stacks. None of the computers are available, so if you were thinking about using one of those, forget it. Unfortunately, somehow even after spending hours upon hours sitting in Randall, you’re still not ready for your exams. Did you ever stop to think that the library is the problem? No? Well think again. Beacuse everyone, your friends included, are all crammed in to the library at the same time, it takes twice as long to actually get any work done. Here are three less crowded spots on campus that will increase your productivity and provide you with the quality studying necessary to ace ALL of your exams.
My favorite spot to study on UNCW’s campus is the Varsity Café, which is located in Fisher Student Center next to Einstein’s Bagels. Not only is there a plethora of tables, but there is also a waterfall that helps me relax when I’m stressed out. There are small tables and a few large tables to accommodate group study sessions.
If you decide the Varsity Café doesn’t have the right study mantra for you, just head up the stairs to the clock tower lounge. This room offers a more comfortable studying environment with tons of couches and armchairs to choose from. If you’re partaking in some daytime studying, then there is also a great view of campus from up there.
If you’d rather be outside and the weather is nice, take a trip to the amphitheater for a little fresh air. Outdoor studying isn’t for everyone, but if you’re able to stay focused outside, the amphitheater is for you. It’s located in the center of campus, near the library and other study spots, so it’s convenient almost all the time. That being said, if studying outside isn’t for you, then this would be a great place to just take a study break.Â
So next time you’re in the library and feeling unproductive, take a chance and try one of these new study locations. If none of these spaces appeal to your studying needs, explore campus a day or two before exams next year to find the right place for you to be the best student you can be.
