If you’re anything like me, you get home for Thanksgiving break and you love being around your friends and family, eating yummy foods, and finally having a short break from classes. These are all things that I look forward to when this time of year comes, but then I also need a break from socializing and time to just relax and unwind. My favorite way to take a break from the craziness of the holidays is by watching some of my favorite movies which are, of course, from the early 2000s. Here are some of my favorites for the next time you’re looking for something to watch.
- John Tucker Must Die
This movie is so underrated but honestly one of my favorites. The music soundtrack is unmatchable and having Sophia Bush as one of the main characters sets this movie apart from so many others for me. It’s a classic about girls who all believe they are dating the same guy. When they find out this information, they band together to take down John Tucker and through the process end up finding newfound friendships. Definitely a 10/10.
- Princess Diaries
This movie shaped my childhood. Between Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway, this movie couldn’t get any better. I think I personally like the second one better, but both are extremely well done. Such a good movie for watching alone or with friends and family. The classic storyline of love and family is a great addition to the holiday break.
- Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
People had told me for years that this would be one of my favorite movies once I watched it. I didn’t watch it until recently with one of my roommates and we loved it. My love for Blake Lively and Alexis Bledel is so strong that I knew I would love this movie and after watching it, I can confirm it is a classic. Definitely a great movie to watch with your sisters or friends, but make sure that you keep tissues near!
- Mamma Mia
Mamma Mia 1 and 2 are my favorite movies and musicals ever. I grew up listening to the soundtracks with my cousins when my grandmother would drive us to school which ultimately started my love for these movies. They’re just simply classics. I highly recommend the second one if you have never seen it. The first is obviously a classic but I LOVED how the second movie encapsulated the point of view of Donna and showed her journey. Definitely would recommend these movies if you’re looking for something good to watch.
- The Devil Wears Prada
If you couldn’t already tell, I am a huge Anne Hathaway fan and a huge Meryl Streep fan. Both of these women are iconic in this movie which is ultimately one of my favorite movies ever. This movie combines my love of fashion with my love of subtle comedy and friendship. It is truly a classic from this era of movies and one of my favorites that I would definitely recommend.
