It is officially September which means another school year is just beginning! A new school year is a chance for a fresh start and that is super exciting. However, another academic year can also feel overwhelming and stressful. Here are some tips to start this year off on the right foot. Â
Establish a routine:
One thing that helps me adjust to college life again is creating a routine that I like and want to stick to each day. My routine revolves around my classes but I plan time around them for other things such as spending time with friends, studying, doing homework, eating, FaceTiming family and running errands. It can be really hard balancing your life, especially in college. But if you create a routine, it can help you incorporate things into your day that are important to you. Of course there are some days when my routine completely fails such as when I oversleep or have more homework than usual. And that’s okay. The key to having a routine is making it flexible and not being upset at yourself if your day does not go to plan.Â
Create a List:Â
One way I keep track of my academic assignments is by creating lists. I’ve been using Google Keep for list-making for a while now. When you create a note on the platform it allows you to add checkboxes so I check off a task when I’m done. Usually, my weekly lists are about assignments or errands I need to do so lists help me make sure I complete everything I need to accomplish. Â
Get Involved:
One great thing about college is there are so many clubs, organizations and activities happening on campus. Go check out a program or club and go to their first meeting and give it a chance, there’s absolutely no commitment if you decide it’s no longer for you. College is a great time to find something you are passionate about and there are so many clubs on campus that can assist in that.
Go to Office Hours:Â
Going to office hours is something that is really worthwhile. Office hours are a great place to meet with your professor to go over class content that you might be confused about. If you go earlier in the semester, it can help clarify material before tests and exams begin. Also, it is always great to talk with your professors because they can advise you when thinking about your future courses, internships and other opportunities.Â
As a new academic year is approaching, it’s okay to have it not all figured out. Everyone is adjusting back to college again but hopefully, these tips help you whether you are in your first year of college or if this is yet another year of college for you. Good luck!
