Growing up, I always had a deep-rooted dislike for Valentine’s Day. All around me, I witnessed people getting their heart broken instead of having an amazing day with the people they loved. Because of this, I decided very early on that I was a Galentine’s Day girl, not a Valentine’s Day girl. Over the years, I have curated many ways to celebrate the very beautiful day of celebrating your besties on February 14. Below are a few of my favorite ways to celebrate.

  • Painting wine glasses

Whether you’re of age or not, painting wine glasses is always fun. You can find all the materials at the dollar store or any craft store, and the materials are quite cheap. Setting up some paint and drinking shirly temples with your favorite girls in the world is a great way to spend Galentine’s Day.

  • Making vision boards

Galentine’s Day is so early in the year that it can coincide with a New Year’s celebration. One way I like to combine these two holidays is by making vision boards. It’s as simple as searching on Pinterest and printing out photos or cutting up old magazines, and it creates a great visual representation of your goals for the year. Every year, I make one and hang it on my wall, and it encourages me to hold myself accountable to my goals.

  • “Board” night

You might read this and think I am referring to board games. On the contrary, I am talking about something much better… charcuterie boards. Getting together with your girls and assigning everyone a different charcuterie board theme is such a fun way to celebrate your love for your friendship on Galentine’s Day. It also makes for great photo opportunities because who doesn’t love to look at a fancy charcuterie board to post on their Instagram story.

  • Movie night

Lastly, of course, there are times when Valentine’s Day may make you feel sad, regardless of spending it with your girls or not. Sometimes, the best way to get this out is with a classic cry session to your favorite sad movie. You’d be surprised how well that substitutes for therapy. Throwing on Ten Things I Hate About You or The Notebook is a great way to get those emotions out in a healthy way, maybe even while snacking on your charcuterie board and with your painted wine glass in hand.
