Somehow, Thanksgiving is already right around the corner. Now that Halloween is over, the holiday season is officially beginning. As the weather cools and leaves continue to fall, Friendsgiving events will be in full swing. Friendsgiving is normally a potluck, partly because of the giving essence of the holidays, and partly because we’re all broke college students.
In the spirit of the holiday season, here are some easy recipes to create for your friends that will wow them and leave the dishes clean!
- Apple Crisp
-
This classic fall dessert holds a special place in my heart as it was an autumn staple in my household when I was a kid. This dish is so simple and easy to pull together in a time crunch. All you need are apples, and the rest of the ingredients are household items like brown sugar, flour and oats. This dessert pairs so well with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, and voilà ! The perfect warm and cozy sweet treat. Here is a classic, simple recipe:

- Pumpkin bread
-
Pumpkin is a definitive flavor of this time of year. Pumpkin bread is another one of the sweets that my mother has mastered, and the smell of the loaf in the oven is something that will always be familiar. This dessert is another simple one to throw together, the only ingredient that might not be in your household is canned (or fresh!) pumpkin. This also pairs well with chocolate chips, which I always have in my pantry!Â

- sweet potato casserole
-
This cozy comfort dish with sweet potato, some sort of combination of brown sugar and cinnamon (sometimes marshmallow!) is perfect to bring to Friendsgiving. It’s sweet, savory and can even be classified as healthy because of the yam base it’s made with! I used to love when my uncle would knock on the door with this at Thanksgiving; the key to every kid’s heart — dessert during dinner!
- Beer bread
-
Growing up, beer bread was something we liked to have in the house. We only made it every so often, contrary to how easy it is to make. All it is for ingredients is flour, a bit of salt and sugar and a bottle of corona — 45 minutes in the oven and you have perfectly golden bread that tastes just like it’s from a bakery. This bread is the perfect addition to a Friendsgiving meal, or any dinner to pair with pasta or chili in the fall! This recipe is just like the one I use at home — butter is optional!
