How Being Told You Have Resting B**ch Face Can Actually Be Insulting

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNH chapter.

I like many girls today have been told I have none other than, resting b**ch face or rbf. For a while now, I owned it and thought it was kinda funny. For anyone that knows me, knows I don’t stray too far from rules and am always friendly so I liked how this label gave me almost an alter-ego. I could walk around looking like a total bad a**, when in reality I was thinking about how long ago I ate because I was hungry, yet again. Now for anyone who doesn’t know what rbf is, it is when a female is in a relaxed state just hanging around or listening to someone but the look on their face says “I’ve already killed you seven times in my head”, examples are as follows:

Like I said, I found this funny, but it started becoming a hassle and in talking to my family I realized how it can actually be an insult. Every girl that “suffers” from this thing called rbf knows the hassle that comes with “the face”; if we had a dollar for every time someone asked us if we were ok because we looked pissed, we would be millionaires.

But that’s just the issue! The fact that we can’t just be relaxed and not be beaming from ear to ear at every moment of the day without someone thinking we are a b**ch is ridiculous! How that statement is even in the name of this face we make,  in our “resting” state we make other people or men in particular scared of us or uncomfortable.

Why can’t we be relaxed like guys are and not be judged? You don’t see any label for them when they don’t look very friendly do you? Unless we act like one don’t assume a female is a b**ch based off her facial expression
