How to Make the Most of the Holidays

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNH chapter.

How to Make the Most of the Holidays

No matter which holidays you and your family celebrate, it is important to remember to hit pause and take in the joy of the holiday season. With the stress of finals weighing us down and daylight savings whisking away what feels like half of our day, many of us find ourselves going through the motions and letting all of the magic of the holidays pass us by. Here are 5 ways to avoid missing out on the festivities:

  1. Decorate Your Space

By decorating your dorm, apartment, or bedroom, you can easily get yourself into the holiday spirit! Find what you like and spruce up your space with an inexpensive (but adorable!) holiday themed item. Personally, I have always loved nutcrackers and each year I get a new one to add to my collection and bring a little bit of festivity to my family’s home.

  1. Experiment In The Kitchen

The heart of every home is the kitchen! Whether you prefer to cook alone or you feel like enlisting your bestie to help you in your culinary endeavors, creating a delicious holiday treat is an easy, yummy way to bring the holidays a little bit closer.

  1. Make Time For Work And For Play

In New England, a big part of the winter season is outdoor winter sports such as skiing. If you’re feeling like you’re missing out, grab a pal and head over to your nearest ski mountain to hit the slopes. If skiing or snowboarding isn’t your thing, there’s always tubing, an activity that requires little skill and provides tons of fun!

  1. Let The Music Move You

One of my absolute favorite ways to get myself into the holiday spirit is to listen to my all-time favorite holiday songs. From Nat King Cole to Mariah Carey to Pentatonix, artists have released holiday records for decades, leaving you with endless possibilities. To make it even better, try curating your very own Holiday Jams playlist and share it with your friends!

  1. Unplug, Relax, And Enjoy

When all is said and done, what really makes the holidays special is the time we spend with the people we love. Put down your phone, turn on the fire, and enjoy the celebration of love that this time of year brings.
