Inspired by Humans of New York, I decided to take a trip to Dimond Library and interview some people. Because of finals, everyone has been stressed out and spending hours in the library so I asked them about things they’re pssionate about to get school off their mind.Â

“Iâm from a small town about an hour and a half north from here called North Conway, NH and I really feel like itâs formed who I am. Itâs like a small ski town and you really get to have a childhood when you live there. Youâre not surrounded by the typical societal pressures we have and I feel like thatâs why I have the values I have today. Itâs a place where you can bike to your friendâs house and not worry about being taken and I think thatâs really given me a level of confidence in myself to not be as insecure about stupid things you find at universities. I try not to get wrapped up in everything you find-especially around UNH, you see all the materialistic things like wearing the best clothes and having the most up to date technology and I feel like thatâs because I was given a childhood and was told not to worry about things like that. I love where Iâm from and Iâm thankful for it and for the family that raised me, good food, good outdoors and stuff like that.â

âWhat I miss most about home is my dog Opal. Sheâs named after my momâs birthstone and as a surprise for Valentineâs Day, my dad brought home my dog, a golden retriever, for my mom and named the dog after her birthstone that she loves and got her opal jewelry too. Tomorrow is Opalâs first birthday.â

âI have this weird obsession with bicycles, itâs like my old man hobby where I fix bicycles. I find them all over and I never buy them, I always just find them in abandoned places and dumpsters, and of course I name them. So right now I have seven, well really seven and a half because I have a unicycle too but I donât know how to ride that. It all started because I studied in the Netherlands and there everyone rides bicycles everywhere and itâs the best thing ever. So yeah, I fix up old English bicycles.â

âMy favorite holiday is Christmas. I just love being with friends and family and love having time off of school. Every Christmas Eve, I go to my cousinâs house and my aunt makes an insane amount of food. I love Christmas music, my favorite song is the Hawaiian Christmas song, Mele Kalikimaka or the classic âLast Christmasâ, Taylor Swift version. I have a mini Christmas tree that I put up in my room before Thanksgiving and my mom usually yells at me for it but I do it anyways.â

âUNH was my last choice-I didnât really want to come here. I thought I would see a lot of people I knew. I wanted to go to Cali. I decided to come here out of force, so I came here and I ended up loving it. I think my sister is going to end up coming here, she applied today.â

âI have a few Christmas traditions I like. One is that everyone in my family opens one present on Christmas Eve. My mom doesnât wrap some of the presents, she leaves them unwrapped under the tree and pretends theyâre from Santa⊠or maybe they are from Santa, who knows. I donât like the typical Christmas food at dinner so I make my mom bring me lasagna instead of ham or turkey.âÂ
