Do you often feel guilty for wanting to go to your room early when your friends are all still hanging? Do you ever feel guilty because your social battery is drained from a long day of being with people and classes? Or do you ever feel guilty for simply wanting a break? Don’t be.

I consider myself an extrovert, yet I find myself still wanting to take time to myself. I often feel guilty for not wanting to do anything or feel like I’m not being productive enough in my day. Sometimes, I have FOMO when it comes to stepping away from my friends for a little while. I am learning to be okay with taking a break just to have a little time to myself, and I want to express the importance of having that time to yourself. Whether it’s to recharge your social battery, do something you enjoy or have been wanting to do, or simply go rot in your bed with your favorite show (my personal favorite), it is okay and a common feeling people have, even extroverts!

We do more than we realize in college such as going to classes, completing assignments, studying for exams, clubs, sports, jobs, going out on the weekends, hanging out with friends, making phone calls to our loved ones back at home, etc. So why not take that break that everyone deserves once in a while? Taking a break is beneficial to ourselves mentally and physically, helps us present our best version of ourselves to others, and truly can boost our mood (speaking from personal experience). So as I am still learning it as well, it is okay to be alone. It is okayy to take a break.
