Organizing Your Closet

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNH chapter.

Although the hours of browsing Pinterest creates an undying urge to go shopping and blow a lot of money on cute, spring clothes, don’t spend money on things you don’t need. Before you rush off to the mall, take a second look at your closet to utilize the clothes you already own.

The perfect way to start a new season is to reorganize your closet. It’s so easy to get into a routine of wearing the same clothes over and over again, leaving some great pieces in the back of your closet.  Go through your closet and reorganize the way your clothes are grouped. Instead of just hanging them randomly, group them by color, cut, and length. It’ll be easier to create new outfits, and you might find some pieces that you forgot you even had!

(This is your CC Laura’s closet, color organized to perfection!)

While going through your closet, try things on. If you’re unsure of something, ask yourself when you wore it last. If you can’t even remember, then it might be time to say goodbye!  Once you’ve done a big reorganizing job, dedicate time each week to quickly clean up your closet. Something you can do each day is when you wear an item, flip the hanger so it faces the other way so you’ll see which items you never wear. Similarly, you can put things in the back of your closet after you wear them.

Although it’s sometimes hard to part with clothes you’ve had for a long time, donate the clothes you don’t want anymore to ease the pain! Or, sell your clothes to a consignment shop to get a little extra spending money to go toward some new pieces of clothing.
