Underrated Restaurants Around Durham

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNH chapter.

Durham, New Hampshire is home to many great restaurants from burger joints to Thai food. After constantly repeating dining options, I began to try lesser-known places, many in the surrounding towns around Durham, and a top favorites list soon was formed.

Bamee

This establishment in Jenkins Court serves Thai and other Asian cuisine available for eat-in or take-out. They provide a wide variety of noodle and rice dishes along with appetizers. The crab rangoons steal the show, stuffed with savory filling inside a crispy wonton. They are the truly the best I have ever had, and I have eaten many crab rangoons.

St. Joes

Located in York, Maine, St. Joes is the perfect spot for breakfast sandwiches. They are served on homemade buttermilk biscuits and even have their own specialty cream cheese. The fan favorite is the “Patty Joe” which is a sausage egg and cheese topped with a hash brown.  On top of this, they have fresh doughnuts, coffee, and lunch options.

KB’s

Another great breakfast spot after a night out is KB’s in Hampton. They provide a selection of sandwiches and coffee flavors, which are great to take to go and eat at the Hampton Beach wall.

Kume Bistro

Just 10 minutes from Durham, this Japanese kitchen has a delicious sushi and beverage menu available. They provide a lunch special Monday through Saturday from 11 am to 3 pm such the hibachi entree which comes with soup, salad and rice. On Mondays they offer $5 mai tai’s while Tuesday has $5 martinis.

900 Degrees

Located in Epping, this pizzeria has an extensive menu, including many gluten free options. You can customize your own pizza down to the sauce including their house marinara, roasted garlic cream, basil pesto or olive oil with fresh herbs.

The Riverworks

This establishment in Newmarket has a tavern and restaurant side. The tavern exudes a cozy atmosphere with special appetizers and light entrees. The dining room is open Wednesday to Saturday from 5 to 10 pm. This part of the restaurant provides an extensive menu with vegetarian and delicious desert options.
