The Oscars aired on Sunday, February 27th this year and they were nothing short of fabulous, especially on the Red Carpet! There were quite a few trends that were noted at the event this year. Many of these trends turned out beautifully and here are some of my favorites!
One of the first trends that I noticed during the Oscars’ Red Carpet was minimalism. Many of the celebrities opted for a simple, less dramatic look this year. I think this is one of my favorite trends because when you think of the Oscars, or any awards show for that matter, you think of over-the-top gorgeous gowns and big accessories. It was refreshing to see celebrities show up looking unusually simplistic. My favorite “minimalistic” look was worn byJennifer Lawrence, who wore a fabulous red Calvin Klein tank dress. The dress fit her body perfectly and her loose waves were a great choice for this look. When Jennifer first entered the Red Carpet, Guiliana Rancic and Kelly Osborne from E!’s Fashion Police noted that she set the bar incredibly high for the night. I completely agree. Her look was easily one of my favorites from the show.

Sparkling nude dresses were also a trend on the Oscars’ Red Carpet. I think this trend is one of the more difficult ones to pull off because of the tendency for the dress to wash the wearer out. Nude is not a forgiving color by any means, especially when it comes to dresses. The celebrities who rocked this trend at the Oscars did so flawlessly!

I really could not choose a favorite nude look if I had to. Halle Berry pulled off this Marchesa dress so well. The fit was perfect and looked great with her skin tone. At the young age of fourteen, Hailee Steinfeld wore a Marchesa dress that she helped to design! The dress was completely age-appropriate and Hailee looked stunning in it! And last, but definitely not least, is Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuillier. When she first stepped on to the Red Carpet, I had no idea who she was! Her dress was phenomenal and I think it’s safe to say Mandy has never looked better!

urple gowns are the last trend from the Red Carpet that I was completely head over heels for. Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman, both from the movie Black Swan, wore purple gowns to the event. Mila wore a lavender Elie Saab Haute Couture dress that I loved. The drape and details of this gown were fabulous. I think Mila was easily one of the best dressed celebrities of the night. Natalie wore a deep purple Marchesa gown. The neckline of this dress was definitely my favorite part and off–the-shoulder straps were a perfect touch. Not to mention the drape of the gown worked wonders to help conceal her growing baby bump! Cate Blanchett arrived at the Red Carpet wearing a unique Givenchy Haute Couture dress. There is usually one look from every awards show that people either love or hate, and from what I’ve seen, this look seems to be it! I was not a big fan of the dress because I didn’t think it was as flattering as it could have been, but there are plenty of people out there who loved it! I will say that Cate’s look was a fashion risk, which is something I can always appreciate!
Although there were many trends and looks that I loved from the Oscars this year, there was one that I really did not understand. Florence Welch, of the band Florence and the Machine, arrived at the Red Carpet in a Valentino dress that was completely unflattering. The dress looked extremely dated and was all wrong for her fair complexion and red hair. Florence is known for taking fashion risks as well, but I wish we could have seen her in something a little more event appropriate and flattering.
