We’ve had yet another brutal winter here in Iowa. UNI students are looking forward to the spring and summer seasons, especially with spring break coming up around the corner. Why wait for the weather to cooperate when Pura Vida Bracelets offer immediate warmth to your day?
Pura Vida, meaning Pure Life in Spanish, is more than just a name— it’s a way of life. The basic elements of the Pura Vida lifestyle are to enjoy life slowly, celebrate good fortune, and not take anything for granted. What are Pura Vida Bracelets? They’re simple, handcrafted bracelets that come in many different colors and serve as a constant reminder of their goodwill.
Based in California, two college friends travelled to Costa Rica for a graduation vacation, and upon returning to the states, established the Pura Vida Bracelets Company. During their trip, the two business students met a man, Jorge, who was peddling simple and colorful bracelets. Intrigued by the vibrant colors, they asked Jorge to make 400 bracelets to take back to the United States. In a few weeks, the three men became great friends and found that the Costa Rican was living in a single room with three beds, shared by a few family members. After the two students returned with the bracelets, they were able to give Jorge enough business to buy a house and hire workers for creating these bracelets. Now, Pura Vida Bracelets are becoming more and more popular as celebrities and models are beginning to sport them. The company began a Campus Rep program, in which a student represents Pura Vida at their college campuses across the nation and sells the bracelets.
Starting at just $5 a bracelet, Pura Vida Bracelets not only supports a Costa Rican family and a pair of business partners; the company is also a member of the One Percent for the Planet group and gives a share of its proceeds to the Surfrider Organization. The Surfrider Organization is committed to cleaning up beaches and oceans around the world.
There’s so much more to say about this great company. If you’d like to know more about Pura Vida Bracelets or the Surfrider Organization, visit their website or “Like” their page on Facebook.
