Now, as a huge fan of Parks and Rec, I was skeptical when I started watching The Office. I was a diehard fan of Leslie Knope’s silly compliments (especially about Ann Perkins, the “perfect sunflower” and Ben’s ~somewhat arguably~ cutest butt ever), and of course I 100% supported Leslie and Ron’s love for breakfast food. I could even go far enough to say that Ron is my “spirit animal”. But as this story goes, I absolutely, undoubtedly, became obsessed with the office after only a couple episodes.
Here are my 12 reasons that will hopefully convince you of the binge-worthiness of the amazing tv show that is The Office (U.S. version).
-
Michael Scott is Ridiculous. From his weird office shenanigans like the time he tried to build Tube City around the office for hamsters to the infinite amount of alternate personalities he uses in meetings and his hatred of Toby from H.R., Michael Scott will always keep you on your toes.
-
Dwight Schrute will teach you all the rules of survival. Dwight is The Office’s “fascist nerd” as stated in commentary for season three. He is known for his inability to socialize and always taking things to the extreme, for example, in order to prepare this coworkers for fire safety he lights an office trash can on fire.
-
Practical Jokes and Pranks are plentiful. Who hasn’t at least heard of the stapler in jello prank?
-
Michael’s “Lovers”. Donna, Helene, Carol, Jan, Holly. Need I say more?
-
There is no better teacher of IDGAF than Stanley Hudson. Stanley is likely one of the more reasonable employees of Dunder Mifflin. If you’re struggling with letting little things get to you, you should absolutely watch season 7, episode 6. You will learn everything you need to know from Stanley Hudson.
-
The Accountants. Angela, Oscar, and Kevin. They’re like the three musketeers of budgets and math, who never get along. (Also can we talk about Kevin’s magic number and his giant pot of chili?)
-
WUPHF! Ever needed a ridiculously thorough notification system? Well ‘intern’ Ryan Howard has just the thing! It’ll send you a fax, a text, a phone call, a Facebook message, and Twitter notification all at once. And the ever supporting Michael is 100% backing Ryan, so there is no way this is a bad idea… right?
-
The Party Planning Committee. Angela, Phyllis, and Pam, along with a few less permanent members make up the party planning committee. If you know anything about Angela, you know that she runs the committee and takes everything extremely seriously, which ultimately will cause a lot of silly issues that are too good not to laugh about. (Don’t even dare forget Dwight’s sad balloons when he attempted to decorate for a birthday party.)
-
Beets, Bears, Battlestar Galactica. There are too many funny things about Dwight to only include him in this list once. And everyone loves Jim, come on. This is a very popular quoted scene from the office where Jim impersonates Dwight. I won’t even dare spoil this for you, just go watch it.
-
Andy Friggin’ Bernard. Did someone say temper tantrum? As a college student who has zero handle on my life I relate to Andy and his instability as he grows and ultimately flops as a person and employee at Dunder Mifflin.
-
Season 7, Episode 6, 3:16. I know I already briefly mentioned this episode, but this is seriously THE BEST thing I have ever witnessed. Gabe totally kills it.
-
Pam and Jim have the cutest relationship.. EVER. How could this not be on my list? They’re #relationshipgoals. And even the issues make them an even better couple, because in real life people have problems. I do have one word of advice when it comes to these to as a viewer. Don’t give up on Jim and Pam when their lives go different directions. They’re absolutely meant to be.
You were also meant to watch this show, it’s fate, so why are you still here? This is the end of the article. Get binging ASAP.
