Anna Ehler, Involved Collegiette On Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNL chapter.

HC: Grade?

Anna: Junior

HC: Major?

A: Family Science Major with minors in Psychology and Leadership

HC: Hometown?

A: Elkhorn, Ne

HC: Why did you choose UNL?

A: I originally wanted to go out of state but after touring the campus of UNL I immediately felt at home and knew that this was where I was supposed to be.

HC: What are you involved with here at UNL?

A: I am currently a member of the sorority Pi Beta Phi where I serve on the Leadership and nominating committee, a senior counselor in the Nebraska Human Resources Institute as well as a co-chair for Park project which is a part of NHRI, the teaching assistant for Leadership class that NHRI puts on, the co-director of family relations for Dance Marathon, and am on the Leadership team for the Navigators, as well as a part of weekly bible studies

HC: How have these involvements impacted you and your college career?

A: These involvements have more than impacted my college career; they have defined it. All of the involvements I have been able to be apart of have added to who I am and have shown me who I want to be in the future.

HC: Which are you most involved with and why?

A: I feel as if I work to spend equal amounts of time and attention on each activity I am in. If you can’t give yourself fully to something, I think it is really hard to find value in whatever it is you are doing. I really enjoy people, and any chance I get to work with people feels like a worthwhile way to spend my time. I love being a part of Pi Beta Phi sorority and am continually encouraged by the other girls every day. I love giving my time to NHRI because there are so many different ways in which I commit myself to the program. Whether it is through my junior counselor, Grace, that I mentor or through weekly project meetings with other college students, I am constantly interacting with others and learning how to be the best version of myself. I also enjoy dedicating time to Dance Marathon. Dance Marathon is such a worthy cause and it is the best feeling to be able to tangibly give back to the families of the children who go through trials on a day-to-day basis that I will probably never have to face.

HC: Tell me about what you plan to do in your organizations in the furture.

A: I plan to continue to stay just as involved in all of these organizations and plan to look for ways to further my involvement and more ways to give back.

HC: Do you plan to join any other organizations/clubs?

A: I would love to be more involved in my college/area of study and am planning on applying for a couple different opportunities here in the near future. I also want to look more into volunteering opportunities at local elementary schools.

HC: How did you hear about all of these organizations and get started being involved in them?

A: As cliché as it sounds, a lot of my involvement stems from hearing about opportunities through my sorority. Choosing to get involved in the Greek system right away as a freshman definitely impacted my whole college career. Many of the organizations I am in other girls in my house were in and encouraged me to be a part of them as well.

HC: Do you plan on being the leader of any of the organizations in the future?

A: If given the opportunity to be a leader, I would definitely consider it.

HC: What makes you want to be so busy and involved in so many things?

A: Being a college student comes with a lot of opportunities and choices. These years are some of the most pivotal in our lives and they go by so fast. As a freshman, I just decided that I wanted to get the most out of what these 4 years could provide so I made a conscious decision to not only get involved, but to get involved in things I am passionate about. By doing this, I have met some truly amazing people, experienced more than I could ever imagine, and learned so much about myself. I would encourage all students to be a part of an organization on campus; it is truly something incredible when you can give your time away to something bigger than yourself.

HC: Do any of these involvements have to do with what you want to do after college?

A: After college, I would love to work in human resources or as a case manager at a hospital; really anything that is highly dependent on interacting with others. So, all of my involvements will definitely help me to be successful in that area.

HC: What would you say to an incoming freshman who is not involved with anything and wants to become a part of something?

A: I would tell them that they should definitely get involved. It will change your whole college career and will introduce you to people you most likely would have never met before.

HC: What do you plan on doing after college?

A: I am looking into graduate school and hopefully traveling a little, going over seas is something I am definitely going to try and make happen.

HC: How would you describe yourself in three words?

A: I would say compassionate, engaged, and loving.
