Meet Caitlin Drummy. She is a junior Psychology and Spanish major from Papillion, NE. I have had the opportunity of knowing Caitlin for the past three years and let me tell you-there are few people who can do what she does. We all know those people who are involved in sports and other activities on campus, but there are few who are involved in serving the community like Caitlin does. I will do little justice trying to explain the life of Caitlin so instead check out the interview I had with her.

Why did you choose UNL?
I always knew that UNL was an amazing school, but I was ready for adventure after high school. But when it came down to making a decision and weighing all of my options, I knew that UNL was my home. (And come on, you can’t really beat the football games, can you?) :)
Â
What is your involvement?
Gamma Phi Beta, Nebraska Human Resources Institute (NHRI), Honors program, UNL Women’s Club Soccer, University Health Center Wellness Advocate, Dance Marathon, Undergraduate Research, YMCA Swim instructor, Papio Bay Swim Lessons Coordinator, St. Elizabeth’s RMC volunteer
Â
What do you like to do for fun?
I love scrap booking, baking, taking pictures, singing, playing piano, running, playing soccer and volleyball and broomball, hanging out with my junior counselor Cassie, and doing fun shenanigans with my friends and sisters!
Â
What is your favorite thing about UNL?
I hate to be clichĂ©, but I absolutely love Husker football. I was born and raised a Husker girl, grew up watching the greats play, and I wouldn’t trade the student experience for anything!
Â
What do you does your future and career look like?
My plans are to attend graduate school for a Masters in Pediatric Counseling Psychology or a Masters in Public Health with an emphasis in Maternal and Child Health…Unless I decide never to come back from Spain.Â

Tell me about Gamma Phi:
Gamma Phi Beta has definitely been my home away from home. My sisters are some of the most well rounded women on our campus and they inspire me to be the best that I can be. This summer, I was fortunate enough to attend our International Convention in Boulder, Colorado. It was incredible to see so many women who have given their time and talents to a sorority that we all love so much – many of them had been going to convention for longer than I have been alive! That experience instilled in me so much passion for bettering ourselves as women and building strong girls through our philanthropies. I cannot imagine my life without Gamma Phi Beta!
Â
Tell me about NHRI:
The Nebraska Human Resources Institute is one, if not the most rewarding experiences of my college career. NHRI pairs collegiate and Lincoln Public School students together who show a high human relations capital and strong leadership potential. My junior counselor’s name is Cassie, and she’s a seventh grader at Lefler Middle School. We have a blast hanging out and talking about leadership topics. Her favorite concept is the looking glass principle: It takes two people to see one person. Our conversations are the best when we’re doing something active, like dancing or playing our made up sports. In addition, as college students (or senior counselors) we work on developing ourselves as leaders together through our class and weekly project meetings. This organization and its basis in reinvestment has really shown me that reinvesting in others is what I want to do with my life.Â

Tell me about your summer job:
Papio Bay: During the summers, I work at Papio Bay Aquatic Center in Papillion, Nebraska. There are a lot of people who can say they work at a pool in the summer, but Papio Bay is definitely not your average pool. Our staff is one big happy family, and we spend almost all of our time together at the Bay. Although we have a lot of fun, we definitely take our job seriously. We are one of the largest and most popular pools in the Omaha area and regularly have thousands of people come through our gates every day. I am currently the Swim Lessons Coordinator and I love getting to work with parents and kids on water safety and skills. My favorite part of lessons is Fun Day, the last day of each session, where we spend the entire lesson having fun on the water slides, diving boards, and playing with the kids. It is a great reward and we love to see the kids practicing while having fun!
Â
Tell about your study abroad program:
This next spring semester, I will be studying abroad in Valencia, Spain. I am a Psychology and Spanish major, and I cannot wait to experience the Spanish lifestyle! I have always wanted to travel, especially to Europe. I love to learn new and exciting things and going to a place with so much history is so interesting! As a Spanish major, I am excited to become (close to) fluent while being abroad. I am ready for a big change and I think this adventure is just what I need!Â
