Bellevue East DECA teacher and basketball coach Brent Gehring and his family have been facing a life challenging situation these last couple of weeks. The family’s 8-month-old was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor and was quickly flown to Boston to have the tumor removed. One of the top brain surgeons for young children was working in Boston and was prepared for the challenge. Family, friends, and students all worried the surgery was too severe for the young baby to handle. Thankfully Emma survived the surgery and recovered well. Unfortunately, the tumors biopsy came back to be cancerous and young Emma must undergo another surgery, followed by chemotherapy. Faculty, staff, and students at Bellevue East have done their best to help out the Gehring family by putting together charity events to help raise money for Emma. T-shirts and bracelets are being sold at the high school as well as online on Emma Gehring’s webpage. After last Sunday’s Spaghetti Feed and Silent Auction, Brent Gehring tweeted, “I always knew I’ve had great students throughout my years at east. Today definitely proved that fact. Current students worked their tails off and former students came to show their support. You are all very much appreciated. No doubt in my mind #ChieftainNation is the place to be.” He expressed that all over Nebraska people have came together to support his little girl and for that we are all in his heart as family! Every moment miracles appear, so join the fight and become #EMMASTRONG!
