Holiday Gifts for Your Skin
How to keep a healthy glow during winter…
Latarua Perry
The skin is the largest organ we have on our bodies. It also happens to be the most sensitive. You may find yourself looking or feeling different as the seasons change, (relax my dear) you aren’t crazy! Those dry spots, chapped lips, and eye bags are expected during this cold weather. They are, in fact, imbalances that take their toll on our skin. If this has become a newfound battle, consider the steps you are about to receive as an early Christmas gift. You’ll have no reason to cover your face in family photos this year… Sayonara painful zits! Here they are, the tools to keeping a healthy glow during winter. Remedies made for any skin complexion.
1. Wash your face
It is important to wash your face, especially during the winter. Make sure you are very gentle when doing so, skin can get aggravated easily, which can promote dryness and wrinkles. Favor body-temperature water over extremely hot water. Avoid using soaps with harsh chemicals. For most skin types, sweet almond oil is a good lubricant to use after washing to help protect the skin. A luxurious option for keeping skin lubricated in the winter is milk. Bathe the face with whole, organic milk. Milk’s tiny nutritious molecules lubricate the skin and can be easy absorbed without clogging the pores. Heat the milk to body temperature (not too hot) before applying.
2. Moisturize
Seal in as much moisture as possible in the winter. The ingredient to look for in a serum or cream is hyaluronic acid. This is a molecule that works as a sponge on top of the face to pull water in. It will give your skin a nice drink of water without leaving a greasy feel. For those of you with oily skin, this ingredient is also beneficial. The more water you get into your skin, the less oily it will be. STAY AWAY from moisturizers that contain collagen. That is an acid that attracts water (the exact opposite).
3.Protect
Chapped lips are one of the most common complaints of the winter months. Use lip balm multiple times out of the day. If you want to add color try to stick with a long-wear gloss. This adds moisture, unlike regular lipstick, which can promote dryness. My favorite lip balm to use is sweet mint by Eos.
Other helpful things…
- Drink plenty of warm, pure water throughout the day. Purify the body and stay well hydrated
- Balance a healthy diet
- Try to get eight hours of sleep
- Learn to meditate, enjoy yourslef some “me-time”
*Adjust products depending on the climate. If you live in a humid state, your skin won’t be as dry, so you can usually get away with a simple moisturizer. If you live in a drier climate, you should use a product with hyaluronic acid, and a moisturizer that will help seal the moisture in your skin.*
Following these steps will ensure healthier skin. Your skin is the most delicate thing on your body, protect it. It’s time to let the glow on your face paint a vibrant picture for the world to see. I look forward to seeing you strut that beautiful skin in this chilly weather!
Until next time Sunflowers,
