Phil Good’s Music Will Make You “Feel” Good

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNL chapter.

Phil Good is originally from Portland, Oregon, and moved to Los Angeles in 2016. He has collaborated with many artists and recently took on his own written and produced project. Phil Good has a couple videos on his YouTube channel, but primarily premieres on many indie artist channels like MrSuicideSheep and SleepyWolf. This past year Phil Good released three amazing singles.

The first was Better, a surprisingly deep song alluding to depression and feeling low. In the song he expresses feeling down and lost, not wanting to leave his bed, but he promises to be “better” tomorrow. Describing the reality of needing guidance and struggling with seeming put together. The chorus and beat promise of a brighter future and healing.

“I’m gonna be better

Another day gone but tomorrow I know

I’m gonna be better, better”

Good’s next single, Be Somebody, has been stuck in my head since I heard it this summer. The overall vibe of the song is brilliant. The lyrics touch every young adult struggling with feeling like they are behind their peers. Seeing everyone on social media seemingly in perfect relationships and jobs makes it seem like we are behind. It can make many of us feel like we are not yet “somebody”. This is a song to listen to for a chill evening or to dance to when you need a song with a good beat.

“Lost track of time, so irresponsible

Now I gotta be somebody, gotta be somebody, oh no”

Phil Good’s most recent single, Put It All On Me, is by far relationships goals. This sweet but still fairly dance-y tune details the things Good would say to a partner that is feeling down. He says he will be there for his partner, whether they need to rant or be left alone, because he knows they would do the same. It is hard not to feel cared for when you listen to this song.

“Feels like the worse but you’ve conquered before

You feel like you’re losing your balance, baby

I got it, I got it”

Phil Good has also released Sleeping In in 2016 and Growing Up in 2017. Sleeping In follows a similar line of Be Somebody about turning away from traditional expectations. Growing Up is as chill and passive aggressive as a break up song can get. Phil Good’s music is extremely original, chill yet appropriate for a club, and always makes me feel, well, good! Check out this artist. His past work is profound, and we can only expect more amazement from this wonderful musician.
