Hot Girl Style: Megan thee Stallion Struts in Dapper Dan

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNT chapter.

The self-proclaimed ‘hot girl’ stunned us all in her latest performance at the Made in America Festival wearing a custom Gucci look designed by the legendary Dapper Dan. The 5’10 Stallion has received a lot of criticism recently for her fashion choices. Fans and fashionistas alike have questioned whether she even has a stylist, and if said stylist knows how to dress her curves. If you aren’t familiar with Megan, her look can be described as sexy cowgirl always paying homage to her Houston roots, heavily inspired by 2000s street style, and she loves a two-piece cropped set.

Megan recently gained a new stylist, EJ King. King is an established Celebrity fashion Stylist, most notably for his work with Karrueche Tran and Teyana Taylor. On July 27, 2019, King took to Instagram to announce that he was officially apart of Megan’s camp.

There has been a positive shift in Megan’s looks on and off stage since King has been in the picture. Due to his experience, he seems to compliment her well. He understands how to dress her curvy figure, yet staying authentic to the Hot Girl persona she’s created. I believe he will elevate her look to the next level, and she’s well on her way to be the new ‘it girl.’ This was further confirmed when she killed her Made in America performance on September 1, 2019, dripping in Dapper Dan x Gucci head to toe. Stylist EJ King, Creative Director Marlon Mizrahi and designer Dapper Dan are the great minds behind Megan’s showstopping performance outfit. Starting with a fitting with designer Dapper Dan, King and Mizrahi worked together to ensure the look not only looked good but would translate well and fit Megan’s brand. The finished look is a red cropped jacked with Gucci logo print as well as the famous Dapper Dan stamp in all caps on the back of the jacket. What appears to be leather red drawstring shorts with a ferocious tiger appearing on the back of the shorts and jacket. A matching logo bra and thigh high boots to match.

The look is the perfect blend of Megan thee Stallion meets Dapper Dan. That’s what so special about Dan’s collabs with artists. He does a great job working with artists, specifically hip-hop artists, to really marry street-style with luxury. He’s worked with artists like Mary J. Blige, LL Cool J, Salt-N-Peppa, and the list goes on and on. Dapper Dan, also know as Daniel Day, is a designer and creative director from Harlem, New York. Day is credited for elevating luxury brands like Gucci, and connected these brands to hip hop and hip-hop culture. Dapper Dan has a career spanning thirty years, so it is ideal that any up and coming artist wanting to make a statement and establish their style would come to him to do so.

Serving looks like this will continue to get Megan noticed and build her brand as a superstar. Her music is rising on the charts, her fan base is locked in, and with EJ King as her image architect, Megan is well on her way to total pandemonium.
