I Learned about Skincare Essentials and So Should You

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNT chapter.

No one is worried about appearances in the summer, going to cafes and slumming it big time when no one has seen you leave your room in days, doesn’t scream “I’m trying really hard to impress!” Lets face it, summer is all about the beauty of a natural glow and the only thing bronzing your face is the sun. We tend to forget about taking care of our skin when the days of instantly crashing after being in the water all day are upon us.

But don’t give yourself excuses. Once you start noticing how oily the heat is making your skin and begin screaming in the mirror after every breakout, one tends to think about what they can do to become everyone else’s skin goals. You want to be glowing but not from oily skin.

After doing some research on where the heck to start with taking care of my skin on a daily basis, my amazon cart become alarmingly full of serums, cleansers, and toners.

There is a system and an order to what goes on your face and when.

First we start off with removing the makeup you had on all day, or just removing dirt from the skin if you didn’t wear any makeup that day, because either way our skin produces natural oils that cling to the dirt our faces acquired throughout the day. I use the Neutrogena makeup wipes, as I’m sure we’ve all heard of or used as of now, since they’re in almost every night routine of multiple beauty gurus.

Then we move on to cleansers-

The one I use is Cetaphil, which washes your face and removes the leftover dirt that’s annoyingly clogging your pores. As well as the makeup that wasn’t removed, oil, and dead skin. This helps prevent breakouts since your pores will be clean!

Next I use a toner to hydrate and glow-

Because most toners are water based, they help absorb your skin’s natural hydration and are able to sink into your skin deeper than just a plain moisturizer. So with toner, your moisturizer has something to trap the hydration in.

Now onto moisturizer-

In the morning, I find that it’s important to have a daily moisturizer that has spf, so your skin is protected at all costs. And at night, I use a regular moisturizer that’s main goal is to maintain healthy moisture balance. I consider moisturizer to play a main role in my skincare routine, and if you had to follow one of these steps, I suggest you add moisturizing to your routine! (Okay but seriously, how many times can I say it: moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!)

Lastly, it’s time to dive into serums-

After mastering the basics, serums can be a good start to playing around for that extra layer of hydration. Something that this serum has is vitamin C and salicylic acid, which is very important if you want to start fading your acne scars.

These are just some products that you can think about adding to your day to day life, there are many more you can use to take care of your skin such as eye treatments, face masks, and exfoliators. But take it from me, as corny as it sounds—once you start glowing on the outside, you start glowing on the inside!
