Welcome to sweater weather season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNT chapter.

It’s finally that time of year, break out your favorite cardigan, get your hot chocolate, UGG boots, blankets, stream “Sweater Weather” by The Neighbourhood, and watch Gilmore Girls on Netflix.

As the weather is starting to get colder, it’s vital for everyone to stay cozy, warm, and comfortable, even if you’re single. Here are a few things I would recommend this sweater weather season as we’re quickly approaching the cold, frosty winter.

Mental Health

Midterms can be exhausting after many hours dedicated to studying trying to get a good grade on those midterm exams, or for some, make sure it’s a passable grade. No matter how you did, it’s important to also dedicate some time to yourself and remember not to base your worth on your productivity. Your mental health is also as vital as your productivity and should be put as a top priority. As my best friend always reminds me, “take breaks, participate in little mindful activities for your mind and well-being.”

Sweaters and Cardigans

“And when I felt like I was an old cardigan under someone’s bed, you put me on and said I was your favorite.” — Taylor Swift

No, you’re not the metaphor in Taylor Swift’s song, but do get your sweaters, coats, hoodies, long-sleeves, and cardigans from under your bed or your closet, or wherever they might be and finally wear them! Everyone needs a staple winter wear, if you don’t have one, thrift stores are your best bet in finding one.

Special food and drinks to have this season

Flu Season

Sweater weather also means flu season is on the rise and COVID-19 still exists, so it’s recommendable that everyone gets their flu shots and COVID-19 boosters before it’s too late. It’s also recommendable to take extra precautions, like the CDC first implemented when the pandemic first broke out. Always wash your hands, carry a hand sanitizer in your bag at all times, and sanitary wipes to disinfect any surfaces you might touch. Masks can be a bit outdated, but they’re still useful for preventing from getting sick.

However, if and whenever you do get sick, buy some Theraflu from your local pharmacy store, some green tea, and ginger and lemon tea, because healthcare is expensive. It’s also recommendable to get tested just in case of anything grave and get treated for it.

Entertainment

While waiting for Thanksgiving or even Christmas to come soon, I like to get in the spirit by watching some movies and TV shows that bring out that spirit. Here are some of my picks:

Movies:

  • Nightmare Before Christmas
  • Happiest Season
  • Love Actually
  • Spencer
  • When Harry Met Sally
  • While You Were Sleeping

TV Shows:

  • Dash and Lily
  • New Girl
  • Friends
  • Gilmore Girls

Lastly, remember to sign up for classes next semester and fill out the financial aid application before Thanksgiving break. Have a good rest of your semester, surviving this sweater weather season!
