THE CATCH / WHY WISH IS SO CHEAP
Wish is so cheap because of the quality: the material is not the best, the fabric may not have the softest hand, the clothing items will not last as long, and there will most likely be some minor sewing problems. Another reason Wish seems so cheap is because shipping costs doesn’t get applied till later. You will be paying shipping on every single item you purchase, and though there are some items where shipping is free, shipping can cost up to six dollars per item.
DO THE RESEARCH!!!
The most important thing when shopping on Wish, and websites like Wish, is to read the reviews, especially the reviews with pictures, and take into account the star ratings. Also, there a ton of non-sponsored Wish Clothing Hauls on YouTube. If you do nothing else, watch the clothing hauls. Videos give you something a picture can’t; it shows what the item looks like without over saturating the color, or some other photo manipulation the website did to make the item look good. It also shows you what the clothes look like on a real person, from every angle, not just the best one. People tend to be brutally honest on the non-sponsored videos, and it’s a great way to find out people’s real opinions and see their initial reactions upon seeing the item in person for the first time. They’ll talk about how the item feels, how much they paid, even how it smells, and most importantly how far off it is from the expectation. Most of the videos will also contain a side-by-side of what the item looks like on the website vs. what it actually looks like in person. Another thing that will require a little bit of research is the sizing because things on Wish tend to run small, so for a few things, especially things that are supposed to be oversized, go at least two sizes up.
CHECK RetailMeNot OR OTHER COUPON WEBSITE EQUIVALENTS
Yes, it is possible to get your order for even cheaper. RetailMeNot is basically a virtual coupon book, just type in any store in the search box and you will get a list of all the sales, deals, and discounts that particular company offers. Wish has lots of coupons/deals on RetailMeNot, including getting 10% off your entire purchase.
HOW SHIPPING WORKS
Order your items at least a month and a half in advance of when you need them by, because it will at least be that long until you actually receive them. Every single item you order ships separately because they are not all coming from the same location. That is also why you are paying a different shipping price for each individual item.
SOME OF THE PICTURES ARE FAKE
When shopping on Wish, I noticed that some of the pictures looked familiar, that is because I have seen them before on Pinterest. That is an instant red flag and I do not recommend buying whatever that item is because the expectation will probably not match reality, or it’s probably a scam. The clothing hauls on YouTube is the only way to find out for sure.
THERE ARE DUPLICATES OF THE SAME ITEMS AT DIFFERENT PRICES
Another thing to look out for is the same item for a different price. Wish is a website that many different companies/stores sell their clothes on, that is why some of the exact same things are offered at different prices, and depending on the item, there could be up to a ten dollar difference.
HAVE LOW EXPECTATIONS
For the most part there is a direct relationship between quality and price, at least where Wish is concerned, so if you pay four dollars for a shirt do not expect that shirt to be without sewing errors or top quality. Wish is very win-some-lose-some, but if you really do the research I guarantee mostly positive results.
SCAMS
Unfortunately, there are scams on Wish. Not many, but some, so to avoid possible scams do not buy a single item that costs more than thirty dollars before shipping. And avoid buying designer stuff all together because it is most likely fake no matter what the price is. I also do not recommend buying any technology items from something as simple as headphones to a tv – which is obviously a scam.
YOU CAN BUY WITH OTHER PEOPLE AND SAVE EVEN MORE MONEY
Another way to save money on Wish is buying with other people. When you click on an item, something might pop-up informing you that your item will be anywhere from twenty cents to seven dollars cheaper if you buy with Sam or whoever you buy with.
MAKE SURE YOU WRITE REVIEWS
If you got an item that surpassed your expectations, tell people about it, if you got an item that is not at all what it was supposed to be, warn people about it, but… more importantly, when you write a review you get points which go toward a percent off coupon. And you will get even more points if your review includes a picture.
ONLY BUY T-SHIRTS FROM WISH
I highly recommend only buying simple shirts like graphic tees from Wish. For the most part, expectations actually match reality, and they last longer. For fancier shirts and sweaters, I recommend Shein, and for jackets, I recommend Fashion Nova. Jackets, shoes, jeans, jewelry, and dresses, even tank tops, are way too hit-or-miss on Wish, they also tend to cost a little bit more. Lastly, and this should go without saying, but do not buy makeup or any beauty products from Wish just as a precaution.
Overall, despite my many warnings and semi-negative reviews, I actually recommend using Wish. Once I took my own advice and read the reviews, looked at the pictures in the comment sections, watched the clothing hauls on YouTube, checked RetailMeNot for coupons, and actually looked at the sizing chart, I have had nothing but positive experiences.
