I have no idea how we’ve made it to October so soon! However, I’m so glad for this time of the year! If you feel represented by your zodiac sign (like me), keep reading to find the best costumes for this Halloween season! ARIES: March 21 to April 19
As a proud Aries, I feel it’s only right to start with the sign described as courageous, fiery, bold, and energetic. All these traits make me think of a daredevil, or a person who is willing to do just about anything for the greater good. The costume that best represents Aries energy is the Rocket Man himself, Elton John. Self-absorbed, but not selfish, and flamboyant with a love for the dramatics. Honestly, pick your favorite performance and shine like only Elton knows how. If this doesn’t exactly float your boat, you could dress up as your favorite superhero or characters that represent this zodiac sign. The one I feel does it best is Maleficent. Physically, her horns closely resemble those of a ram and she also embodies the boldness and confidence that Aries carry. Other costumes that embody Aries are Go Go Yuri, Maddy from Euphoria, Princess Jasmine, Lady Gaga, or a gory monster.
TAURUS: April 20 to May 20
Tauruses are commonly described as reliable, dependable, practical, and well-rounded, but also romantic, artistic, sensual, friendly, stubborn, and have no shame in enjoying the luxurious things in life. While many Taurus-like costumes come to mind, I believe Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games and Cher are great options! You could also go for a Disney-inspired costume, with characters like Belle or Tinker Bell. However, my favorite Taurus costume would ABSOLUTELY have to be Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. This diva is simultaneously sophisticated, blunt, and unapologetic about her lifestyle. Other note-worthy Tauruses are Dan Humphrey from Gossip Girl, Lisa Simpson from The Simpsons, and Kiara Carrera from Outer Banks.
GEMINI: May 21 to June 20
I think that even those that do not have any interest in zodiac signs have probably heard some very negative things about Geminis. They are characterized by the Twins, Castor and Pollux, that represent two different sides or perspectives. For this reason, Geminis are infamously described as being two-faced. However, the reality is that Geminis are actually very outgoing, social, talkative, whimsical, indecisive, chismosxs, and erratic. An ideal costume to embrace all these traits is a clown, but if you want specifics, Joker and Harley Quinn make for a great couple’s costume idea. You can also depict this zodiac sign by incorporating the element of duality to an original or DIY costume. For example, you can dress up and do your makeup half-black and half-white, as pictured above. Other costumes that bring out the Gemini spirit are Beetlejuice or Natasha Romanoff from Black Widow.
CANCER: June 21 to July 22
Whilst Cancers are represented by the crab, and are known to be quite crabby sometimes, I personally believe there is so much more to them. From personal experience, I can tell you Cancers are very nurturing and kind. This year, the best costume to represent your sign would be Stereotypical Barbie. Including her character arc, what really makes her stand out as a Cancer icon is her caring and humble heart. If a Barbie outfit is not your style, first explain yourself, but then I have an anime character that embodies Cancer like no other: Sailor Moon. Disclaimer: I have never watched anime, but have asked two very reliable sources (Google and my anime obsessed friend), and both agree that Sailor Moon wins most of her battles by tapping into her emotional side and that she is a natural romantic with how easily she falls in love. Other costumes you could look at are Elastigirl, with her ability to be a mother and a badass, raising her children and saving the world, and to achieve an actual Cancer look, search no further than the one who “Runs pop” (source: Nicki Minaj) Ariana Grande.
LEO: July 23 to August 22
Confession time: If, and only if, I was not an Aries, I would be jealous of Leos. If I could choose which sign to be born as, I would definitely choose Leo. Personally, I have been obsessed with every single Leo I have ever met. Whether I love or dislike them, every Leo I’ve met just commands attention with their mere presence, and I stan. Leos are natural born leaders, with a charming, funny, and protective nature. They know people are watching and will gladly receive any praise you give them. Like Elton John, one performer who fully embodies their sign, is the legend herself: Madonna, a controversial trailblazer that has transcended generations, and whose firsts songs are still relevant today. I could talk for a week about this legendary Leo, so I am going to move on. Other bold and fearless characters I feel wholeheartedly embody the Leo spirit are Merida from Disney’s Brave and Game of Thrones’ Daenerys Targaryen. While some say this last one would be an Aries, I would disagree. I understand the whole mother (of dragons) argument for Cancer and the independence and passion for Aries, but I think when you combine both of these with her leadership skills and powerful attitude, SHE IS A LEO.
VIRGO: August 23 to September 22
I live with a Virgo man and am very good friends with a Virgo woman, and while they are different, their sign definitely shines through. Virgos are ambitious, iron willed, perfectionists, self-aware, self-confident, and self-critical. Some costumes I feel would embody these traits are Beyonce, an ambitious perfectionist, who is obviously confident, but also seems to be self-critical. One of the best role models in entertainment, and a trailblazer in her own right, a cultural icon, constantly uplifting Black power and women empowerment, if there was ever a Virgo I would love to live with it is a thousand percent, Bey. Another Virgo queen is the one and only Wanda Maximoff from WandaVision. Keeping with the Disney theme, the best fictional character that fully embodies Virgo is Elsa from Frozen, a woman who locked herself up because she couldn’t be perfect. Considering everything she’s been through, her struggles with self-criticism, and her unforgettable breakthrough to confidence, she’s a Virgo.
LIBRA: September 23 to October 22
I have always known Libras to be the most diplomatic and fair people. Very focused on justice, diplomacy, and balance. A celebrity who I believe represents their sign well is Kim Kardashian. While she’s controversial for many reasons, and validly so, one cannot argue she has made a difference with her fairly recent work, trying to get people off death row. Indifferent to anyone’s beliefs on death row, saving people’s lives, especially innocent ones, is a very commendable thing to do, and very in tune with her sign, as well as the desire to be a lawyer. A fictional character, whom I would have loved to be real, is the one and only Cher Horowitz from Clueless. While it is mentioned that her birthday is in April, I will leave that to be an ignorance of zodiac signs from the writers, because Cher is a Libra through and through. One instance of her showing her true Libra colors is when she announces her plan to help Haitian people who are in need. Most of all, her Libraness lies in her persuasive power. From changing her grade from a C+ to an A- and making everyone fall in love with Tai, Cher proves to be an influential and ambitious woman. If it isn’t obvious by now, I LOVE DISNEY. So my Libra princess is obviously Cinderella. Although she resigns herself to doing the chores her stepmother and stepsisters order her to do, all to keep the peace, she finally puts herself first in a true Libra fashion. She ultimately does what it takes to achieve her dreams and become a princess. Finally, my favorite Libra man, John Lennon.
SCORPIO: October 23 to November 21
The first person I thought of when thinking of Scorpio was Erik Killmonger from Black Panther, played by Micheal B. Jordan. I think this character embodies true Scorpio essence: he’s vengeful, driven by a generational grudge, and captures the gray area of a villain. The most Scorpio things about him are his power and single-mindedness. He is a villain that, in a way, makes you sympathize with his cause and his actions. All of these things are pertinent to Scorpio’s traits of being loyal, devoted, passionate, and assertive. Another good costume for a Scorpio is a scary or spooky creature, like a vampire, a witch, or a zombie. For specifics, The Vampire Diaries’ cast series features many Scorpios. My top three are Katherine Pierce and Damon and Stephan Salvatore. They all show very intense passion in the series. For instance, Stephan’s love for Elena borders on obsession and he has a very straightforward way of thinking. Additionally, as much as he tries to have control, every couple hundred years he breaks, and his becoming of the Ripper is very much Scorpio. Finally, Damon and Katherine embody opposite sides of being a Scorpio. Damon is powerful, brave, and passionate, but sometimes lets himself become overpowered by his jealousy and aggressive nature. Meanwhile, Katherine almost always exhibits the negative traits of being jealous, manipulative, and violent. In fact, she’s so manipulative, she even sometimes convinces other characters and the audience that she has changed, but, like a Scorpio, she cannot hold a facade for long. With this costume, since we have a problem with doppelgangers, I would encourage you to go with a period piece and add blood or vampire teeth.
SAGITTARIUS: November 22 to December 21
I have always found Sagittariuses to be the most optimistic sign, as well as honest, free, and adventurous spirits, very funny, spontaneous, and very “live in the here and now” type of people. Hailing from the Upper East Side, is Gossip Girl’s Blair Waldorf, a true Sagittarius. Although she makes herself a force to be reckoned with by portraying this sign’s most negative aspects, Blair is very strong-willed and determined. Her most Sagittarius trait is, by far, her blunt honesty. A fictional character that embodies the adventurous aspect of a Sagittarius is Captain Jack Sparrow from The Pirates of the Caribbean. Escaping the deserted island and Davy Jones, all while finding the funny and humorous side of every situation, no matter how serious it may seem to other characters or the audience. He’s also the textbook definition of a free spirit. A few other ideas for this sign is Georgia from the Netflix series Ginny and Georgia. I find she embodies the honesty and decidedness of a Sagittarius. Finally, along with Jack Sparrow, Lucifer Morningstar from Netflix’s series Lucifer is also very notorious for being a wild card, all while being very charismatic and always looking forward to his schemes.
CAPRICORN: December 22 to January 19
From personal experience and investigation, I can say that Capricorns are very hardworking, sometimes overly analytical, they value tradition, and can be pessimistic. Some characters I find to be Capricorns are Pope from Outer Banks, Alex from Modern Family, Sherlock Holmes from Sherlock, and Regina George from Mean Girls. Sherlock Holmes is a Capricorn personified. Known for his intelligence, deduction skills, and observational abilities, he also doesn’t get close to too many people, but when he does, he becomes extremely protective of them. He also has the optimal job for a Capricorn, a detective. Another iconic Capricorn is Regina George. Before I even start to describe her, I have to state that I’m a Regina apologist, partly because Rachel McAddams is my childhood, but still, I stan. Moreover, one of her most iconic characters in the 2000’s, AKA Regina George, is a canonic Capricorn. She is ambitious and dedicated, a consistent character trait that is shown throughout the entire film as she strives to become North Shore High School’s most popular (and feared) person. While she is using all her Capricorn traits for evil, she is without a doubt unforgettable and a part of cinematic history. Other examples would be Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Joey from Friends, and Alex Dunphy and Manny Delgado from Modern Family.
AQUARIUS: January 20 to February 18
Aquarius people are often described as unique, humanitarian, altruistic, impulsive, artistic, loyal, optimistic, intelligent, independent, and unconventional. A celebrity who is very in tune with his star sign is Harry Styles. He’s super independent, which explains his blossoming and successful solo career. He has a very humorous personality and often makes political and cultural statements through fashion. His Aquarius lifestyle also shines through in his philanthropy, for example, hosting free acoustic performances during his Up All Night tour. Another costume for Aquarians is Phoebe Buffay from Friends. She’s very unique and is always marching to the beat of her own drum. She shows her selflessness when becoming a surrogate for her brother and carrying his triplets. A trait both Aquarians share is a love for music, typical of this sign. While Phoebe may have not reached the success Harry did, her performances at Central Perk will never be forgotten. Other characters that show Aquarius traits are James Bond, Jess from New Girl, Yoda, and Bonnie Bennet from The Vampire Diaries.
PISCES: February 19 to March 20
Last, but not least, we have Pisces. I have actually met a lot of Pisces in my life, the first one (and my favorite) being my mother. From her and others, I can describe Pisces as sensitive, imaginative, laidback, highly sociable, generous, genuine, needing regular
reassurance, and that they don’t like to be told what to do. A favorite of many boricuas is Bad Bunny, who perfectly embodies the traits of a Pisces. He said it himself “I do whatever I want.” He continues to trailblaze Gen Z culture by challenging gender stereotypes in fashion and transcending cultural and societal norms, especially in Puerto Rico. He unabashedly does not care what others think. Another trailblazing Pisces is Robin Buckley from Stranger Things. She is always looking out for her friends, even if it means putting herself at risk. She is also very intuitive and very brave, especially concerning her sexuality for the time the show is set in (1980’s).
