Coming along with couple number 6, it’s pretty clear that just because you’re in a relationship, doesn’t mean you have to like Valentine’s Day! Which goes to show that it’s just a day, and partners should share how special they are to each other all the time and not just on occasions.

Here’s to you!

Cute Campus Couple

Jorge “Gaby” Oquendo & Natalia Calderon

How’d you two meet?

Snapchat! They both respond at the same time.

NC: During orientation week there was a Snapchat story, and I added him. Then, we just started talking.

How long have you been together?

NC: Since August.

JG: Six, seven months?

NC: Yeah, six months sort of!

What was the first thing you noticed about each other?

JG: Her lips.

NC: I thought you were going to lie and not say that!

She laughs.

NC: But the first thing I noticed was his hair.

What makes your relationship work?

JG: She’s the dominant one, so she’s the one that calms me down, and she knows everything. I’m like the little kid in the relationship.

NC: I was just going to say we’re like each other.

JG: No, yeah, we’re like each other, but I’m the one who storms off, and she’s the one that calms me down.

NC: Yeah, we complement each other. Salt and pepper!

One word to describe your partner.

NC: I’d say complicated.

JG: Interesting.

Any plans for Valentine’s Day or traditions?

JG: We hate Valentine’s Day!

NC: I was just planning to sleep in.

JG: I’ll bring her like a teddy bear.

NC: Ew! I’ll probably just burn it.

JG: Let’s burn it together.

Do you like Valentine’s Day, or are you the Valentine’s Day Grinch? Guilty on that second one! Whether you like Valentine’s Day or not or whether you care a lot about your relationship details or not, it doesn’t matter as long as you like, not just love, each other.

Antoinette Luna is a Performance Studies and Comparative Literature major at the UPR. Her passions include writing, reading, and anything crafty. She loves to sew, write, and make things from scratch. DIY is the name of her game. Around campus, she is known as a bubbly young woman who goes by just Luna. Her future goals include traveling, traveling, and more traveling. Outspoken transfeminist, and wannabe activist, she's out to set fires.
Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Josie is a senior in the UPR-Río Piedras campus, majoring in English Literature. When she's not on campus, you can find her browsing a bookstore (as if her TBR pile isn't big enough already!). Books and writing are what drives this girl--apart from fighting to destigmatize mental illnesses and raising awareness about the importance of consent. Josie enjoys traveling, bingeing on spicy food and a lot of sweets, blasting Bieber, and adding shows or movies to her Netflix queue that she'll never get to. Josie is a junior editor for the Rio Piedras chapter in Puerto Rico. If you want to see what else Josie is up to, you can catch her on her bookstagram.
