However, I did find something that surprisingly has uplifted my spirits throughout these months, and that’s taking care of my house plants.
I live in a house with a balcony and ever since the lockdown started, my mom has put out some plants there for better light and better living. One day she asked me to water them, and that’s when I felt it― how therapeutic and calming watering plants can be. I had done this before, but that one time felt like it was just what I needed.
Numbness and a lack of motivation can be some of the feelings I get when I’m not okay. Getting myself out of my emotional bubble can be especially challenging, and I have to push myself to do things I know I will enjoy. Finding out that taking care of my greens is an option to help me stay motivated has brought me joy. Somehow, I feel more connected to nature, even while being stuck at home. Who would’ve known?
Although I’m telling you about how beneficial taking care of my plants has been, that doesn’t mean I’m particularly good at it. have actually unintentionally killed some of them! I’m aspiring to improve though, because I want my plants to feel the love I feel when I care for them. It truly is powerful to see how a tiny leaf can slowly become bigger and turn a brighter green! It’s also heartwarming to know that I am contributing to the life cycle of a plant right from the comfort of my balcony. It’s just something so personal and special. It almost feels like magic, purely based on love for my greens.
