Poet: Victor Ramos Rosado

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPR chapter.

Being a writer is something not many people are proud of. We are used to a society talking about actors, athletes, and beauty queens. But we tend to forget about the misfits, the rejects, the ones who captivate us with what they have to say, without opening their mouth. The ones who teach us morals, and makes us fall in love with similes and metaphors. The people behind the most brilliant sayings. A while ago, I went to Naranjito and met this fella, who gave me one of the biggest reality checks I needed. He sees the beauty in everything, and since we have a world that’s so cruel, I think everyone should know this person’s story. Meet this week’s Campus Celebrity.

Name: Victor Emanuelle Ramos Rosado

Age: 19

Major: General Studies

Classification: Freshman

Relationship Status: Single

Hometown: Naranjito

1. HCUPR: Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Victor: I can do many things, I enjoy writing, reading and acting. Most importantly the art of declamation. I am both a Star Wars and Star Trek fan, which makes me both a geek and a nerd. I don’t consider myself a very responsible person, but I try, I really do. I also really, really- did I mention really?- likes hats. And I’m what you call a presentao’.

2. HCUPR: First time you recited?

Victor: It was during a high school competition. In the Language Festival. There were a couple of teachers who told me to read and memorize a poem, but I lost. That didn’t stop me, though. And the year after I competed again, and this time I won first place.

3.HCUPR: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Victor: I don’t really think about the future, I enjoy living in what’s currently happening.

4. HCUPR: You happen to be a freshman, yet you are an active member in the Student General Council, tell us about this.

Victor:  I’ve always been up or representing the students. So, they told me there was a spot available, and I ran to represent the General Studies area, and got elected. Sometimes, I think it was a mistake, but a very interesting one.

5. HCUPR: Best memory so far in Rio Piedras?

Victor:  Becoming the announcer for Pulso Estudiantil. I’ve always wanted to become one, so this was a memorable experience since it presented itself to me, not the other way around.

6.  HCUPR: You’re being interviewed for something and we really need to know; Why poetry?

Victor: I’ve done it all when it comes to the method of writing (essays, stories, you name it). Ironically, I find more liberty in poetry. But at the same time it gives you a structure. The way you can say things without actually saying them. You make art out of anything.

7. HCUPR: How about your future with poetry?

Victor: Poemas Realengos. Make a mini book full of poems that don’t have anything in common, and that will be the title of the book.

8. HCUPR: What is your drive to write?

Victor: I use my emotions. I’m not a very sentimental person myself, so I use what I get to express how I truly feel. Other than that, I use anything I look at and find appealing to write about.

9. HCUPR: We have many students who are from distant areas, how’s it like living in la IUPI, since you have to leave your hometown?

Victor: It’s a completely different world. I’m not used to this. Gives me liberty, but it also gives me a lot of responsibilities. So it’s kind of hard to say how I feel about it.

10. HCUPR: If you could do anything without getting caught, what would it be?

Victor: I think I’d go to another country without telling them. Oh, and I would most likely stab someone with a candy cane. I wanna make them feel the Christmas spirit. *laughs, because he’s currently eating a candy cane*

11. HCUPR: Something not many people know about you?

Victor: I still remember my elementary school anthem.

12. HCUPR: Since it’s the season of Xmas, anything you love about it?

Victor: Reading the Grinch.

13. HCUPR: Describe yourself in 3 words:

Victor: Serious, Funny, and Evil (just a little bit).
