Poetic Mondays: And She Swayed

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPR chapter.

Boo! Don’t be scared it’s just us, your lovely little friends at HCUPR. This frightful Halloween day we’re going to give you this little treat, so keep the tricks to yourselves… Today we feature a poem darker than the others that we locked up to release on this special day when ghosts and ghouls roam the Earth (not really, but just go with it).

So enjoy little creatures of the night.

Through the door I entered

Just like any other man

There I found her

Swaying left to right

Side to side she danced

Nothing to look forward to,

no one to bring her down.

Therefore she swayed

I had just arrived

yet nothing I had missed

just found myself late for the greeting

but early of the dance

for her things were going wrong that day

though they ended so, so right

this was clear to me because of what sustained her

I watched her over her and only saw sturdiness and strength

Nothing broken or weak, just an object and its purpose

And she swayed

as light on her feet as a dancer

her purely white dress flowed with the swing

yielded by red droppings

like if their one and only purpose was to reach the floor

a sweet mockery of life this is,

that a pure stainless girl ends up with this gray being

still there she was

and with a nick

she was released

I asked for her hand

she gave me consent since I would take her to the grandest dance of all

I, Death would be her date

and we swayed.
