5 Inspirational Female Celebrities That Deserve Recognition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at URI chapter.

Isn’t it great when celebrities inspire you and give you a reason to obsess over them even more? Lets be honest, we all love to hate on them sometimes but not all are obsessed with their ego. I’m talking about the celebrities who are making a difference. The ones who send chills through your body, who do great things in life and make their fame worthwhile. Some celebrities’ achievements shoot way passed entertaining and on to inspiring. They inspire us follow in their footsteps and empower greatness within women.

Inspiration is an exhilarating feeling that we pursue to motivate us, to continuously persevere through the hardships. Amidst chaos, there are always celebrities who graciously spread their warm wise words and radiate wisdom. Here’s to the women who are constantly motivating and inspiring us.

Giuliana Rancic

In honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I believed that Rancic is our perfect number 1 fit for this post. In 2011, at 37 years old, this prior E! News anchor was diagnosed with breast cancer during a period of time when she was trying to conceive. It took Rancic a bit of time to make the decision to undergo the serious treatment that is a double mastectomy.  Although feeling “rattled” like she used to be, Rancic is now centering her thoughts on empowering women and talking about her personal experience in a positive way. She has been continuing to raise awareness about the disease by teaming with Save Lids to Save Lives campaign.

Oprah Winfrey

Winfrey has dealt with plenty of ups and downs within her life including racism, criticism of her weight and being questioned about her sexuality. She deserves the biggest medal in the world because this woman truly deserves it. While growing up, Winfrey was a victim of molestation, sexual abuse and became pregnant and gave birth to a child at 14 years old, who passed away two weeks later.

Winfrey persevered, finishing high school as an honors student and working her way up in television, becoming a self-made billionaire and starting her own television network. She has donated millions of dollars to various charities and organizations. She used her talk show to publicize her philanthropy work and the importance of helping others. We all will never forget The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa project and when she gave 300 members of her audience $1000 each to donate to a charity of their choice. 3 CHEERS FOR OPRAH WINFREY!

 Angelina Jolie

It’s safe to say that this woman walks the walk and talks the talk.  Although best known for her breathtaking beauty and Hollywood spotlight, not enough credit has been given to Jolie for her incredible charity work.  She has made a huge impact on this world as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UNHCR since 2001. Along side husband, Brad Pitt, Jolie has raised awareness for many different world issues.

This Oscar-winning actress has been on field missions around the world in more than 20 countries. The Jolie-Pitt foundation, dedicated to conserving wildlife, protecting resources and eliminating rural poverty, generously donated $1 million to Doctors Without Borders. Jolie continues to become more involved throughout her life. Aside from three biological children, Jolie and Brad Pitt have adopted 3 other children from third world countries. Jolie is unstoppable and a true motivation.

Jennifer Hudson

Hudson is known for her big voice, tremendous heart and strong mind. It all started when she left the viewers of American Idol in awe and obsession. She was the first African American female singer presented on the cover of Vogue Magazine. She released her first album and in return earned 29 awards; including an Oscar and a Golden Globe from her debut in the movie Dreamgirls.

Unfortunately, Hudson’s pride was put on hold when her mother, brother and nephew were tragically murdered. Everything came crashing down, but that didn’t stop Hudson. Instead of having a celebrity meltdown and being overcome by all the attention, she disappeared from the public eye a little bit. When she came back she referenced her family as a source of strength and artistic inspiration. She also became a mother and took control of her health. She lost 80 pounds. Hudson embodies persistence and determination and overcame an incredible transformation in all aspects of her life.

Taylor Swift

Swift is a beautiful person inside and out. There have been countless times where she is hands on with her fans. Meaning, she is actually hearing them out. She actually wants to meet them and share excitement with them. Swift launched a video spreading the gift of giving and the spirit of the holidays to her fans, known as “Swiftmas”. She documented all efforts and love put into these gifts. In part with this, she drove to Connecticut to hand-deliver gifts to a mom and son on her list. Swift is an extremely genuine celeb with a heart of gold.

She can’t stop and she won’t stop. This pop star is also named Most Charitable Celebrity. Her contribution to New York Public Schools is one of the many charity efforts she’s made. She donated $50,000 from the proceeds of her popular song. “Welcome to New York”. On top of that Swift has been a part of plenty of other charities. She really knows how to put her money where her mouth is.

These women have made a huge impact on the world.
