URI is affiliated with multiple study abroad programs like AIFS, API, TEAN and many more that offer great destinations to study abroad. Whether you want to complete a J-Term, semester, or summer in another country, the options are limitless and are guaranteed to give you a life changing experience. I’m sure that we have all heard of going to Spain or Italy or France as study abroad destinations, but after looking up other options, I have noticed that there are many other places that some people didn’t even know were possible! Whether you’re looking to spend your classes on the beaches of Hawaii, or on a boat traveling from country to country, there are plenty of options that will fill up your passport and up your Snapchat game.
1. CubaÂ
Starting in the Spring of 2016, URI is offering a study abroad program in Cuba! URI offers classes in the capital city of Havana, which is right on the coast. This may come as a huge suprise for you as it did for me, but it’s definitely an amazing place to say that you’ve traveled to.
2. South Africa
This program allows you to study in the mountainous city of Stellenbosch. The University offers a wide range of courses all taught in English and can satisfy multiple majors. Get ready to cross off a major bucket list item: going on an African safari.Â
3. Sea Semester
This study abroad experience is definitely a little different than most. Instead of living in a University dorm or apartment, you’re spending your days on a boat traveling to many different countries. They offer programs that cover New Zealand, Europe along with multiple islands around the world.Â
4. Hawaii
I think that this is the most challenging study abroad location, because how do people leave the beach to go to class?! It may not be outside of the United States, but The University of Hawaii is a beautiful campus with even more beautiful surroundings!Â
5. Thailand
Studying abroad in Thailand is an amazing opportunity to encounter a brand new culture and eat unlimited amounts of Thai food. This program gives you the opportunity to live with a Thai student which will open the door to many cultural opportunities. Not only is Thailand a beautiful country, but you can also travel to its’ surrounding countries like Cambodia and Vietnam. Sounds like a once-in-a-lifetime experience to me!
6. Australia
The programs that URI offers in Australia allow you to study in basically any region. There are many beautiful parts of Australia and the program offers classes for most majors. Plus, when else will you get the chance to hang out with kangaroos and koalas?!Â
7. Bermuda
This program is designated for marine biology majors only, but if this applies to you then you are extremely lucky. Imagine living in this luxurious vacation spot for an entire semester and having classes about scuba diving? That definitely sounds like an ideal experience.Â
