The Classics of Disney Halloween Movies

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at URI chapter.

Disney’s original Halloween movies are classics. Don’t you remember when your social calendar back in middle school revolved around the Disney Channel Movie schedule? Let’s throw it back to middle school when your Friday nights consisted of what friends are gathering where to watch these movies; along with some buttery popcorn mixed with candy corn to fulfill the Halloween feel. This time of the year defined Disney movies like no other: Halloween.  Don’t be ashamed to watch your childhood movies, Rams. Nobody can disagree that Disney Channel always came in clutch for the “Spooktacular”. It’s time to sit back and enjoy Disney’s “spooktastic” movie madness and take a trip down Nostalgia Lane.

Halloweentown Series; Halloweentown, Halloweentown 2; Kalabar’s Revenge,Halloweentown High, & Return to Halloweentown

The Halloweentown series was too good to only have 1 movie. The series introduced us to the Cromwell clan and displayed how Marnie and Sophie discovered their potential magical powers for the first time. Let’s face it, the original is always the best. The other 3 movies follow up with the witches life and the challenges they face between the two worlds they belong too. Still can’t believe they replaced the original woman who played Marnie. I know when I was little I was extremely stoked to watch the series. These movies are a must see this October.

Twitches & Twitches Too

Twitches made us realize that Sister Sister was extremely missed. Your favorite twins made a come back and starred in this movie. During the movie the girls discover each other’s existence and that they were born into royalty. Although very different, the girls managed and meshed to the sisters they always were after years of seperation. After discovering their powers and reuniting with “Coventry”, the world where they were born, they learn about each other and how to use their magical powers. When evil strikes, it’s up to the twin witches to save their home. You can’t miss out on our favorite childhood twins, so check these movies out!

Hocus Pocus

You’re in for a devil of a time with this movie. Hocus Pocus is about how after three centuries, three quirky wild witches resurrected and returned to Salem, Massachusetts on Halloween night. Through out the witches last night of roaming Massachusetts, the trio sets out to cast a spell on the town and reclaim their youth and beauty. It is up to a bunch of teenagers, a young girl and a talking cat to put an end to the witches’ terror once and for all. This movie is my personal favorite and a must see. You have not experienced Halloween without watching Hocus Pocus prior to it.

Under Wraps

This is the oldest Disney Channel Halloween movie and a heartwarming classic. When three kids discover a mummy they were scared at first and then quickly discovered he is friendly, clumsy and out of time.  The kids take care of him and help him get back to his coffin before midnight on Halloween. The film contains a variety of suspense, humor, and even romance. Under all of the mummy’s wraps is a broken heart, which signifies he misses his soul mate back in Ancient Egyptian times. Disney’s Under Wraps will keep you smiling and anxiously waiting for good things to happen while watching it.

A Disney Channel Movie equation cannot be completed without their “Monstober” special. This is still a Disney Channel Halloween tradition and I only hope that kids under the age of 13 still experience what we got to as we were growing up watching TV. Many Disney Channel Original movies have been dropped from the lineup, but can still be purchased if you’re lucky enough to find it on the shelves. Here’s to a fabulous line up of Halloween movies that will bring chills to your bones this October.
