This summer, Taylor Swift released a surprise album. Folklore is her best work to date and every song is poetic and magical. It was hard to come up with my top five favorite songs since it’s ever-changing, but I think I finally solidified my favorites. From least favorite to favorite, here are my favorite songs off of Folklore.
5. “illicit affairs”
The bridge in this song is so good that it’s pretty much the whole reason why it is one of my favorites. I can’t relate to this song at all but the bridge always makes me want to belt it out with my friends.
Favorite line: “You taught me a secret language I can’t speak with anyone else”.
4. “my tears ricochet”
This song clearly represents what Taylor went through after her old record label sold her masters. You can feel the sorrow in her voice. It is beautifully written and can be interpreted in many ways for different people.
Favorite line: “And I could go anywhere I want, anywhere I want, just not home”.
3. “cardigan”
This song was the lead single off the album and doesn’t get enough love. People going through heartbreak can definitely relate to this one. There are so many amazing lines that it was hard to choose a favorite. Also, the cardigan that goes along with this song and music video is so cute!
Favorite line: “But I knew you’d linger like a tattoo kiss, I knew you’d haunt all of my what-ifs”.
2. “august”
I feel like this is everyone’s favorite song off the album and for good reason. This song reminds me of a fast-burning summer romance. I love playing it when I go out on a drive; it just creates the best vibe. Even if you aren’t a Taylor Swift fan, you will definitely love this song.
Favorite line: “Wanting was enough, for me, it was enough”.
1. seven
This song makes me feel nostalgic. It feels like the memories of a kid who didn’t really know the extent of what was going on around them. I absolutely fell in love with this song when I first heard it and have been listening to it nonstop ever since.
Favorite line: “And just like a folk song, our love will be passed on”.
