Serendipity: The occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.
Synonyms: (happy) chance, (happy) accident
Thank you Google, for your wonderful definition of serendipity. The one thing we all hope to experience in life. The “what are the odds?” feeling of life, we are all, in a way searching for.
What are the odds I run into my high school best friend I haven’t seen in 10 years? What are the odds I re-connect with my high school sweet heart? What are the odds I found the last pair of Steve Madden heels in my size? The answer to this is, serendipity. The part of life that makes you feel like moments like that are supposed to happen, like the universe stuck you and your best friend, or you and those pair of shoes together for a reason.
They say there is a time and a place for everything in life, and serendipity is that time and place where things just seem to happen for the better. Like that really good conversation you had with a stranger on the bus that related to your life, or that cute guy from your science class that just so happens to walk into your next semester’s journalism class, or any given reminder on a gloomy day that your life isn’t so bad after all.
Serendipity happens to the best of us, if we believe in fate and that everything happens for a reason.
I’m a workout fanatic, but in the most dreadful way. As in I complain for an hour then finally get dressed and go. My legs work fine, I’ve never broken a bone, and I’m in pretty good shape. So what’s my reason of complaint? I shouldn’t have one. Every time I’m at the gym, serendipity works out with me. I could be on my last set of crunches or on the treadmill and I will look across the gym from me to see a person at least 30 years older than me, with a cane, and 2 assistants, helping them get their exercise in. This occurrence of mine, never fails.
“How did I even think for a second I couldn’t finish my workout? There is a person who actually cannot. Who am I to complain?” This crosses my mind every time in a reminder to be thankful. This is my experience of serendipity.
Hope coincides with serendipity. The hope that something more meaningful can waltz into your life even on the worst days. With serendipity, there is always hope for a new friendship, relationship, or even an encounter that will make you smile more and feel better. It’s a reason to let go of the past and hope for something that will spin your life around for the greater good of any situation and the future. Serendipity and hope is that kick in the butt that everyone needs when they feel like nothing they want has come, or that nothing in life is going there way.Â
If serendipity could talk it would say, “hey, let me give you something better in life,” even if that something is not what you were originally looking for. Don’t be closed minded to the fact that the world works in mysterious ways and there may be a reason for the random happenings and serendipity in your life. Some people say we are given signs in life to direct us, and if we listen we just might end up where we want.Â
