College is a wonderful and rewarding experience that we all live through. We take the transitioning process to go out, meet new people and broaden our horizons.  These years are going to be filled with extraordinary memories and new, cherished friendships. However, it’s hard to forget about the memories you made with your friends before coming to college. College friends are different than home friends. Despite the time and distance apart, nothing is different when you are reunited. Lucky me, I know that nothing, especially distance, could EVER alter the relationship I have with my friends back home. I couldn’t thank them enough. Here’s an open thank you letter the people who just get it.
To my besties back at home,
I’ve been back at school for about a week and a half, and I’ve been thinking about you constantly. It takes a special kind of bond to get through the time and distance that college has put us through without talking 24/7. I hope you’re read this, smile and never forget how much I love you.
Thank you for picking up exactly where we left off; no matter how long it’s been since our last three hour phone call or FaceTime session. I want you to know I appreciate every time we talk on the phone, the random texts filling me in on something embarrassing and for always keeping me in the loop.
Thank you for showing me what to look for in my college friends. Anxiously awaiting freshman year had me thinking that my future friends had enormous shoes to fill. Luckily, the shoes were filled and fit perfectly. Although college friends are different, I’ve got nothing but love for all of you.
Thank you for teaching me how to handle drama with people you’re close with. Let’s face it, its always bound to happen within a close group of girls. Disagreements happen, but it’s how you approach each other to work it out.
Thank you for sharing my happiest moments and for genuinely enjoying it along side of me. I appreciate you for listening to my saddest stories and radiating kindness and sympathy to make me stronger and levitate me higher. You’re my rocks. Just by being at my side, life is that much better. Here’s to you for keeping me grounded.
Thank you for defining what’s “normal” because we all are the total opposite of it. The no judgment zone is the best zone. You all have taught me that being myself is the only way the best memories happen.
Thank you for the truth when it hurts. I always respect your views and trust your judgments. Your opinions and thoughts have guided me down the right path and I’m so thankful to have people like you to be there for me.Â
Thank you for the honor of facing the world with you and being my best friends.
Thank you so much for staying constant in a world that is filled of change.Â
Last but not least, thank you for teaching me that our relationship is unbreakable. Regardless of what happens at college, I know that you’ll always be there for me with a shoulder to cry on and a solution to all my problems. The distance between us only means that we have more to appreciate, more to laugh about and more moments to cherish when we do finally get to reunite. I understand that life gets busy and hard and we are not always going to have time for each other, and that is okay. Even though you’re not walking to class with me, going out with me, or cramming with me in the library, I know that you’ll be standing there when times really matter.
College does get in the way, but it doesn’t stop us from knowing what’s important; our friendship. It hurts when I miss you all, but you take the hurt away when we reunite. I can’t imagine my life without you and am so thankful to have you in my life. Here’s to you, my soul mates.
Thank you for these reasons and a million more.
Love Always,
Your bestie.
