We’ve spoken to this talented young lady before and here she is again, starring as the Maniac in Dario Fo’s Accidental Death of an Anarchist with the Performing Arts Kollective (PAK).
HCUSC: So how did the Accidental Death of an Anarchist phenomenon begin?
Tara: Well the idea came about after a very tiresome day, Peta Beattie came to Marina and I and told us about a play she did when she was at Uni, and she was absolutely in love with it. So we sat down and started reading through the play and it ended up us acting the whole thing out in the middle of the Chancellor Park Tavern and then later she dediced she would set it for the uni and we loved it!
HCUSC: How did the auditions work/what was involved?
Tara: So basically if you were a member of USC – a staff member of student you could come along and audition. We’ve had quite a lot of people who have joined PAK as a result of Accidental Death of an Anarchist, which is really exciting because they hadn’t been involved with PAK before. It did put our name out there a bit more. We’re slowly getting bigger and better and more and more people are recognising us. We put a lot of effort and a lot of time into it.
HCUSC: Tell us more about why you wanted to do this play.
Tara: We wanted to do something that was a bit more hard hitting and when you think of uni students, we should be on the forefront on the industry we’re studying. So it is really funny and has a lot of slapstick but it is also really dark and confronting and times which I think is really important that you don’t just give a fun play or happy play to uni students but actually make them think and challenge themselves. It’s not some little girly play!Â
