I’m sure we’ve all been there – you see a cute puppy on the street or online and start to think that all you need in life is a puppy. Imagine the cute pictures, adventures and naps that you guys could take together. It feels like the most perfect opportunity for you.
There is only one problem—you’re in college. This means that you are often busy and, depending on the type of person that you are, you may be struggling to take care of yourself.
Many people don’t have time for puppies while they’re taking classes and working. As for me, I gave in to this puppy fever, and here’s how it’s been going so far.

I adopted my new puppy, Adelaide, nearly a week ago. At the moment, she is in the worst stage of puppyhood. I’m talking accidents on the floor, begging for scrambled eggs (she’s never even had them!) and my least favorite–biting me.
So, if you’re not ready for new holes in your hand or stains on your floor, I wouldn’t suggest getting a puppy.

Now let’s talk about their attitudes…
That’s right, they’re worse than teenagers.
Another important aspect to consider when you’re thinking about adopting a fur baby is whether you’ll have help with taking care of her.
There are times when you’ll have to leave your pup, so who will watch her? In my case, my boyfriend has been great about watching Adelaide when I need to go to work, and my roommates have also been checking up on her when necessary.
All in all, make sure that you have time for a puppy before you adopt one. And remember, there are always fully-grown pups at the shelter in need of loving homes. So, if you want a dog in your life, but don’t have the time or energy for a puppy, one of these guys could be your new best friend.
As for Adelaide and me, we’re working on the whole peeing in the house and biting thing. Wish me luck on making it out of puppyhood with all of my fingers!
